Help End Animal Shelter Murders

Every single day there are hundreds to thousands of animals "murdered" in so-called "animal shelters" just because they are homeless. These poor innocent souls end up in these "death camps" in a myriad of ways. With our current economy, many animals are just "dumped" at these facilities with the owners/former caretakers either not caring or may be hoping their discarded pet will find a new home. This becomes, for the most part, fairy-tale thinking as more often than not, especially in rural facilities, the percentages of deaths far outweigh the percentages of those saved and re-homed. Other ways these unlucky creatures end up in these uncaring facilities is because they go out and trap a hungry, defenseless creature just trying to survive on the few scraps of food they find outside. Many of these are feral cats, who are afraid of people (for good reason), just hungry and trying to survive and fall victims to senseless trapping and being brought to a kill facility (knowing they are more than likely not going to be re-homed) just to be murdered for living on the streets. Another way these innocent creatures end up in these death facilities is by confiscation. For instance, in a "hoarder" situation perhaps healthy animals are torn away from someone just because someone else deems they are caring for too many animals. These poor creatures are ripped away from any small comforts they have only to end up in a facility where their chances of survival are slim, at best.
What can be done about all of this? Those of us who care about the wellbeing of every single creature advocate that these facilities become no-kill facilities. Unfortunately many of these places are funded by government monies and when the economy takes a downturn like it has in the last few years, animal shelters are one of the first places where the funds are cut back and as a consequence, more animals die. Nathan Winograd is an advocate and activist for building a no-kill nation. I could not agree more with this concept. Those of us who love animals and advocate for their safety and peaceful life urge all others who share these beliefs to do something that will make a difference for the homeless facing death, a death that is so unnecessary. I urge you to read what Nathan lays out in his writings about how to succeed in getting shelters to become no kills. It takes dedication, effort and commitment in order to make the changes necessary to accomplish the goal of a no-kill nation but for the millions of animals facing dim prospects, if they had a voice, they would be cheering us on and hoping that we are successful in bringing about the change that is so badly needed towards compassion and love instead of discarding, cruelty and murder.

Let's be logical, not emotional. Too many animals are born, often they stray and become uncontrollable; they can't be homed. I'd rather they were killed than bite or scratch. Rabies is a problem affecting both humans and other animals. Shee children are starving, many 'live' in poverty, but we give to animal charities, not to children.
