Let me say that I don't have anything against smokers because
with all the warnings there are and those nasty TV commericals
about smoking, if one want to smoke let them smoke and thats
just the way I feel about it..
But not being a smoker now and never, when you walk into a huge
cloud of smoke when you exit buildings or walking the street is
just stifling..I don't know what smokers are suppose to do but
I think buildings should provide a padded smoke room for smokers
so they don't have to stand out in front to their building and
smoke...
I do understand its an addiction but I just think they should be
more a little more conscience of others....and that dam second
hand smoke...
Ok let me have it.....I am ready....

I totally agree with you. I don't want to smell or injest anyones smoke. If I don't smoke I shouldn't be subjected to inhaling it when I'm leaving a building. I agree they should have a room for only the smokers. It is not fair that we non-smokers end up with cancer of the lungs from second hand smoke when we never smoked. I can't count how many times when I was leaving the ferry boat and everyone was lighting up while the smoke was going in my face.

thats exactly what I am talking about...But when they are
outside I believe they feel like its just OK to light up..
and not being able to smoke in certain areas like on a ferry
for a X-amount of time...they are truly ready to light up
as soon as their feet hit the pavement...

Yes, I agree all possible ways must be done to drive away smokers because of their irritating smoke. I urge citizens to muster enough courage and not to be afraid to scold or drive away smokers. They're really a menace to society. I may have done the same offence for 40 years smokers now are doing until I quit the habit in 1994. Thanks for coming up with this very important issue.

I think that the padded smoking lounge inside would be the best idea of all.
Whether smokers smoke inside the building or have stepped outside, their second-hand smoke is still affecting others.
Having them contained in smoking rooms from which no smoke escapes makes a whole lot of sense to me.

they have no choice they have to smoke outdoors in front of the building they are working for. Some companies do have a smokers launch but very few do.

First of all they do have a choice...They either move so that they
will not be directly in front of the door where people are going in
and out and another choice is "STOP"....so I am not buying that
"they have to smoke outdoors in front of the building they are working
for"...not buying it...

Whenever I am dine out, I prefer to be in an air con room as much as possible . As there are so many inconsiderate smokers around in the open area and they puff as they like enjoying their own world. No doubt it is their liberty to do so as there is no "non-smoking" sign around.
Sometimes we may not have the opportunity to be in an air con environment as not every eating places provided that, so we ended up in the open area. I would be near suffocating and try to leave as fast as I could . What a ...second hand smoke experience...

I use to be a smoker, but I have quit since couple of months now. I agree with you though, when i used to be a smoker I made sure no one was health wise getting affected because of my smoking. So I always stood far off from my non-smoker friends who had issues with it. Now that I don't smoke I expect people to do the same for me

hi bjc I do agree as that second hand smoke gags me ,suffocates and makes me feel ill, please smokers do take it where non smokers do not have to breathe that poison. So go ahead smoke, kill yourselves just do not take me along with you . A lot of people are really allergic to the smoke so why make them suffer.

Hi bjc: I don't hate smokers. In fact, my own dad is a smoker and I love him. The thing is that it's not comfortable at all to sit in front of a person that is smoking and at the same time, when someone is smoking, he/ she is affecting the health of the people around him/her, because, after all, we breath the same air.

I agree with you that smokers must make sure that they don't affect other people. My dad's a smoker, sadly. Although I'm sad that he still haven't quit smoking, at least he makes sure that when he smokes, we're not near him so we don't inhale the smoke. I hope he quits soon, though.

Hi Bj!
I actually agree with you on this. I loath smoker so badly that I always confront them in public whenever I feel violated. Whenever I see a no smoking sign and they continue to smoke that is highly stupidity or worse blindness. Smokers are inconsiderate, selfish beings that only thinks of achieving their own satisfaction instead of health of other. The other smoker I hate are father smokers. They already have children yet they smoke in front and near them. Setting an example my face! It's like encouraging children to smoke because you show them how. That is plain crooked philosophy. Ha!
Thanks for the discussion. I will calm down. LOL!

I am not personally smoking but my father does. So I am ok to be around with people who smokes. I understand your poit that there should be a proper place for those who smoke. Because it is not fair for those passive smokers. Some of them are trying to keep themselves healthy, don't smoke by themselves but they cannot avoid smoking via others.
However, to have a proper place to smoke is might be an ideal too. In this case, just the smokers need to respect others a bit. If you want to smoke better to move a bit far from others or politely ask for permission if you are with friends.

Here there is a law where you have to be away from the door to smoke. Now in the winter people never follow this, because they go outside to freeze to smoke. I use to walk into college, and have an asthma attack because they all stood infront of every door in the building. I think it's just plain rude, I know many friends who smoked who wouldn't do it near me, or stand away from me.
