White lies

I am just wondering if what I have done yesterday can be considered as a lie.
My brother called me yesterday saying that he can't go home on time because he will extend his stay in the mall with his friends. My parents would surely get mad at him if they will know about it. So what I did when my parents arrived and ask if my brother is already at home, I just told them that hes with our cousin doing their project ( they attended summer classes )my parents just told me to call my brother and make sure that he will be at home before 8 pm. They didn't ask further questions knowing that my brother is with our cousin.
I felt guilty of what I did. I don't usually tell lies with my parents because I know that it is not a good practice. But I just did that because I don't want my parents to be get mad with my brother because i know that my brother is just enjoying with his friends whom I knew as well.
Do you think what I did is a lie. My best friend told me that it was just a white lie because I kind for the sake of my brother. But I just realized that whatever do you call it, it is still considered as a lie because I did not say the truth. What do you think?

A lie is still a lie ... irrespective whether it is white or not.
However, my boss used to tell me at times we need to tell some white lies
to avoid further problems. Justification for white lies, may be have to balance
to see its pros and cons. Try to avoid but at times we have no choice.

That's exactly my point. There will come a time that we cannot avoid telling a lie especially if we can avoid something or someone in a worst situation. I know that even it is a white lie, it will still be considered as a lie no matter what explanation I might do but I just did that to avoid any trouble with my parents nor with my brother. But as what I have mentioned, it will be the last lie to cover up with my brothers thing. Next time I will let him face my parents and explain. Thanks for the response.

You did a bad thing but it's not the worst. Just remember that one lie can incorporate more in the future. It may be a white lie now but it could lead you to lie more in the future if you need to cover up for this lie. If you don't want to lie, you could've just let your brother talk to your parents and let your brother lie to them instead of you taking the hit.

Thank you for the response. I love my brother that is why I've done that.But I already talked to him and just ask him not to do it again.. That would be the last lie I would do for him.
