A 42 year old man was caught stealing 102 bottles of nail polish from a CVS in Connecticut. In total it was worth over $800!

I can't help but wonder what he was going to do with all that nail polish? Re-sell it most likely.. or maybe he owns a nail salon and this is his way of cutting costs?
Do you have any better ideas?

The most likely reason is that he hoped to sell them but other reasons might include getting a 'high' by inhaling the solvent or extracting the nitrocellulose in order to make an explosive device.
I always find it incredible that people still try to steal from stores which almost always have security cameras installed.

Well if he was making explosives I'm really glad he was caught!

That's what I'm figuring.. or maybe he's got one of those shops on e-bay or something.
Or maybe he moonlights as a drag queen?? LOL

Wow that is a lot of nail polish! How in the world did no one notice him taking the time to steal 102 bottles of nail polish? That is crazy to need that much. I think you are right about reselling it. As sad as it is, people are getting desperate to support themselves. Costs keep going up for everything.

Where do you think much of the merchandise those flea markets or discount stores comes from? It is a huge business to lift items from pharmacies for resell... "huge" as in being part of a multi-million (or is it now billion?) business of organized crime. Something for "bargain" hunters to consider the next time they are buying their super cheap razors or deodorant...

That should be "multi-million dollar" there...
There was actually a Canadian documentary made on this topic a few years ago... http://www.cbc.ca/documentaries/doczone/2009/shoplifting/factsheet.html. One interesting fact: "28% of retailers reported overall losses of more than $500,000 to Organized Retail Crime (ORC)." That number is, of course, for Canada.

Maybe he has a thing for nail polish, and he wants to bathe in them!
I know that I like the smell of it, I just don't know how much I like 102 bottles in total!
Almost $8 per bottle? Those are expensive nail polishes!

Yeah it's all expensive these days!
I had to buy my daughter some red lipstick and blue eye shadow for her dance recital and I couldn't find any that were under $5 each.. I didn't want to pay a whole lot for make up she'd wear once and I'd never use!

I was thinking he was going to sell it too.
Or maybe he's an artist and he was stealing supplies? :D

Wow! That is a lot of nail varnish! I think it anything, he was more than likely going to sell it and try and make the money on it all but, then I guess we will never know what his plans were!

I think that he was probably going to sell it. Where we live people do stuff like that all the time...they call them "boosters".
The company my husband works for they had people stealing Tide laundry detergent. The thieves would turn around and sell it for a much cheaper than any store...Tide is pretty expensive if you ask me. The sheriff's officers in our area said they had regular "customers" to sell to.

Will make me think twice before I buy things at a flea market! Though I usually don't buy products like this anyway.. I'm there for good deals on second hand stuff!

I only reason I know possible is that he is going to sell it to make money. Now a weird thought just popped out of my mind....maybe his wife is into collecting nail polish that he wanted to please her but got not money to buy her even a bottle.

He probably was selling it.. why else would he need 100 bottles at once? Just weird.

Over here, we have glue sniffing addicts and when they cannot get the glue they will look for alternatives like nail polish or nail polish remover.
I doubt he is an addict of this sort but I am open with this. The other thing I can think of is that he may have a psychological breakdown of a personal kind where he thought that by getting all 102 bottles of nail polish, he will be able to please or win back somebody's heart like maybe his wife who had suddenly left the house or departed suddenly. It sounds more like the latter than trying to sell it.
