Most of us will occasionally gets the blue or feels sad and down. We normally experience mood changes ranging from feeling happy and content to feeling restless and dissatisfied. Some of these normal shifts in mood are the result of the lives we lead.
What actually is the difference between being depressed and having the blues ?

Hi ! Like in me there's no difference , funny what i am having both. Depression , blues , sadness have common denominator that is being unhappy and unsatisfied on how life is treating her. I guess everybody experience such but there are some who have overdosed on this like me , maybe it would be the end of the world if i will be happy. I lived with this kind of condition , with God's help and understanding i will survive.

Yeah, God can heal all our sins as depression or anxiety is the cause factors of all our illness !!

I consider depression as a serious condition that needed treatment to surpass it. On the other hand, having the blues, is something all of us experience once in awhile even without a particular reason. Rain, for example, to some people can make them blue, but that doesn't mean they're depressed.

Depression it's more intense and last longer. It's also something you can't actually manage, that's why it is an illness. It's not like "I feel a little blue, but I am going to buy new shoes and all will be ok."
Depression affects the way you eat, sleep, work etc.. It gives you the impression that nothings matters anymore. So you can't focus on anything anymore (at least not the way you used to do it).
It's normal to have mood changes and to feel sad, sometimes. Life gives us all enough reasons. But if this affects your daily routine (like weeks, everybody can have some bad days or not in the mood days), than you have to find some solution - a medical one if none of the others help.

Yeah, depression can have many causes. It can be triggered by psychological problems that can often be resolved through psychotherapy aimed at improving one's self-confidence, view of the world, and relations with family and friends. It may accompany chronic pain or any number of different physical illnesses, such as hypothyroidism, cancer and aids. But it can also be associated with biochemical imbalances in the brain; thus taking medications that can cause such imbalances may be responsible.

Well, for me being sad is just okay as long as you don't have to dwell on that situation for too long.
If something depresses you, then you have to do something that will reverse it.
It is unhealthy to live a life full of sadness.
Live like today will be the last.

I think depressed is severe blue mood. Person who has depressed, he tends want to die and feel that his life does not useful anymore. Having blue is easy to overcome but depressed need more time to overcome the symptom. Even, some cases person with depressed need certain medication to heal the symptom.

It is common that we used to get blues in life. We may encounter some sadness, unhappiness, loneliness...in our life experiences. However, we may be able to get over it more quickly and it will not affect us so badly as we could still function well from day to day .
However, if we are experiencing depression, there will be a prolong feeling of sadness over a period of time. It is not easy to get over with it and such feelings with stay with us and linger in us and become excessive. It will then affect us badly that we may not be able to perform our work well, even to the extent of having sleepless nights . Such depression requires proper treatment in order to feel better .

Yeah, we normally feel good whenever things are going our way, and we feel bad, worried, guilty and unsure of ourselves whenever goes wrong. However, people suffering from a depressive illness have feelings of sadness, helplessness, hopelessness, worthlessness and guilt that transcend what is happening in their lives. Fortunately, depression is also among the most treatable of mental illnesses, usually showing improvement within a month or so. Even untreated, most depressive episodes will clear up by themselves in about a year, and half of those affected will never have a recurrence.

There are many forms and degrees of emotional disturbance that come under the heading of depression and it is difficult to separate them into clear-cut categories. Grief, unhappiness and anxiety over loss or stressful situations are part of normal living without being logical and there is considerable variation in the way different people respond.

Sleep.
If you still feel sad after wake up, that could be a depression. There could be something wrong that need to be fixed.
Solution:
1. Find that something wrong
2. Think about the worst thing that may happened
3. Try to solve the problem without any delay
Don't think there's a problem? Well, I hope there actually no problem - then try to find something positive to do to forget it.
If the feeling's all gone after you wake up, well, seems like you have got over the blueness

Nah, those weren't expert's advice. Just my personal experience.
