Should I go to this interview or not? Restricted caller for job,

United States
April 23, 2013 9:04pm CST
Hi there! I just got a phone call for a job I applied for which is Personal Assistant on the Entertainment industry. However, they called me at 8:46 pm for a job interview to schedule some other time. However, the guy who called me, I asked he gave me the details or address location of the interview and that the time would be at 5pm which is in Burbank, California. However, I live probably 30 miles away from Burbank. I asked if he can send me an email confirmation for the job but I also asked if there's an earlier time before 5 on this wednesday april 24... he said there's no earlier interviews. I was hoping at 1 pm or earlier. I'm considering the safety and location as well and the time. From my house to burbank is 46 minute drive. I also have googled the site address he gave me but there's no company website and I haven't received the email I asked for confirmation for appt and location. He said he would email me when I asked. But before that, i asked for his call back number but he was about to give it, but he didn't and got cut off. He didn't explain much after that. I was expecting email confirmation but I haven't received any. Also when he called me, the number was Restricted on my cell phone. His number doesn't show up but the word restricted caller. So I am having a hard time reaching the number where I can all to cancel or reschedule. The company is called New Nation Studios Entertainment. I did find a number but no one is answering... I really don't know if I want to go. Will it hurt if I did at first say yes and then decide not to go? There's no company website and i found location to be far...and i don't know if it's good to have interviews at 5 pm considering the distance from where I am to there. What's your opinion? Thoughts? Should I go? Also the job and industry is not my main industry I want to work at. I want to work at healthcare industry but I said okay to entertainment industry since Im looking for a job. Thanks.

Sounds real flaky to me. Just Googling and Binging New Nation Studios showed yes, they are in Burbank, but there is no company profile, no officers listed, and two different phone numbers. Just seems a little weird to me that a company in the entertainment business is so publicity-shy when the entertainment business is anything but. Makes you wonder what kind of entertainment they are in, because they damn sure aren't promoting it. Not very professional to get 'cut off' before giving you the phone number and not calling you back or not sending a confirmation e-mail after agreeing to do so either. Just their ethics thus far would warn me against working for a company that conducts business like this. 2 thumbs down.

You did the right thing, webgirl. Sounds like you were the professional one. You tried to call and cancel, and even if you had wanted to reschedule, they didn't give you a call-back number. You got a missed call from Restricted, but it doesn't sound like R left a message. What kind of company does business this way? Besides, professional companies and businesses do not have restricted numbers.

Sounds too weird for the company to set informal interview like that and not send the formal mail. Even if you’re desperate for job, I think this company just sound weird. That’s not a really good idea to go to that interview. Just look for another company. This is the best advice I can give to avoid waste your energy and time.

Hey randomarts09, thanks for your input. I did not show up to interview yesterday at 5 pm. Yeah the company just sound weird cuz there's no professional website, and also they didn't have an earlier interview time like 1 pm. Also it was an hour drive from my house to the interview location. I am glad I didn't show up but I should have called before to cancel but they didn't give me a number to call back to cancel or no email confirmation so yeah sounds weird with none of those. Burbank, CA is far and probably 10 or 20 mins away from Glendale. I don't live around that area. Thanks again I didn't waste my energy or time on that.

From what you have said, it just doesn't add up, none of it, there should be at least a company website, or details about the company, even if they don't have a website, it should still be listed. It sounds very fishy, and personally I wouldn't go, and certainly NOT on your own, you just can't be too careful. So what if you don't go? If the job was legit, he'd be more forthcoming, and certainly wouldn't respond the way he has done to you. I'd forget it and look for something else.

Hey wolfie34, thanks for your input. Well I didn't show up interview today which was supposed to be at 5pm. I am worried of distance/location and safety. I am looking for something else. I was planning to call to actually cancel my interview before the actual interview date but I wasn't able to get an actual phone number to call back. I never got an email. I don't know much about the company. Also when the guy called he just said he received my resume becaue I applied for position but other than that, not much info. Even if i wasn't able to get a call back number to cancel, was it okay for me to not show for interview prior to that I did say yes to be interview which they called me late monday night? I hope it was okay for me to not show up in this case, but I feel bad I made them wait or expect someone to be interviewed.. but then again, they didn't give me email or call back. They call me with Restricted showing up on my caller ID.. bleh. I'm looking for something else. thanks for your input.

If I were you, I wouldn't. Does he know your face? If he doesn't you can come over but not for that purpose to know what it is all about. I guess he just wanted to pull the wool over your eyes. Next time you get a similar call, you'd better watch out.

Hey yanzalong, thanks for your comment. I actually didn't show up for the interview since I went to volunteer work and left around 5 pm plus I'm already gonna be hours late since the interview was at 5pm and the location is a bit far. I'll be watching out for calls like this. I have heard stories about some person who applied for a job or got an interview and then never went back home after her interview. And no, the person who called me doesn't know me or my face. I have never met him. Thanks for the tip.

it seems a scam.i have had a similar experience like you.i received a call which asked me to make an interview in a room of a hotel.the suspicion crossed my mind.and i thought that it was unsafe for me to go to the hotel alone.but i didn't want to lose that chance.so i asked my cousin along with me.he was a fitness trainer with big muscles.when we arrived the destination.i couldn't find anyone.and the so called interviewer's phone powered off.i was lucky that time.so i advise you to go to the interview with a male friend who can ensure your safety.

Hey tinayu, how are you? hope you are doing well. Thannks for your reply. I actually end up not showing to the interview because of the time and location/distance. But they didn't give me a call back number to cancel my interview.. so I did not show up or attempt to go at all. How was that interview you thought was unsafe? Thanks for the the tip. I wanted to impress my parents that I can do my own job search and interviews without telling them. Sometimes telling them kinda makes me stress out because I'm not comfortable if they interview me than me being interviewed by the interviewer. Though I did get two phone calls missed from 5:08 and 5:13 from Restricted and no they did not leave a voice mail message.

Never take the chance. We are not living in 70s or 80s, it's a formality of the company to send an email confirming the interview details, if the guy is not willing to shoot an email, thing twice before moving on, it may put you in trouble. If you still want to go ahead, inform your friends and folks about it and if possible take some one along with you.

Hey there RAJASB, thanks for your response. Today is the interview thing which was at 5pm but I end up not going plus I was doing volunteer work, so I would be already couple minutes or so. The location is a bit far as well. I am considering safety and timing and location because they never had an earlier interview time. It's mostly late time. I thought at first it was in phone interview but they are asking about interview at a late evening time at their area in person which is a location that is probably an hour drive at night. I just felt iffy. My parents probably wouldn't want me to go to this kind of interview.

Hey mingsyl, thanks for your response and tip. I do research the company and stuff. I will keep this in mind for job searches. I just hope all goes well. I end up not showing up today for interview in burbank the one I was mentioning about which was at 5 pm, but I got a Restricted call probably from them. I am considering the time and location plus safety. Because if I have told my parents about an interview at 5 pm in burbank, they will probably feel iffy about it. Also i don't know much about the company since there's no website and it's hard to get a hold of them.
