shame on me, i know... i shouldn't do this because i don't even have to pay for a visit to the doctor but i can't help myself. i want to have an idea about my illness before i finally go and see my doc. i do know that what i read is not conclusive because diagnostic exams are necessary. i just need the comfort of having a clue about what's happening to my body.
if i think my ailment isn't a serious problem, i look for herbal remedies on the internet. i don't bother to go to the doctor.
what about you? do you take your health for granted that most often you do not bother to go to the doctor when you think it's just a small problem? do you use the web to get a deeper knowledge of some of the ailments you've been diagnosed of? do you think i'm endangering myself and my health for doing this?

If I feel something and I know that it can be easily cured with paracetamol and antibiotics, then I don't go to a doctor. If I have little doubt about myself, I call my brother in law who is a doctor. But when I feel really helpless, I go straight to the ER.

It just so happened that my brother in law owns a pharmacy so that makes it easier for me to purchase them.

taking antibiotics without the prescription of a doctor is not advised but i think you know this already. in some countries, antibiotics can be bought over the counter but here in italy, we can't buy antiobiotics unless we have a doctor's precription.

When I feel something strange to my body I try to figure out first what are the sign and symptoms of my illness, if its serious I will rush myself to the hospital to seek medical attention immediately.

i am a biologist and when i was younger, i used to read the medical books of my EX who was studying to become a doctor. i also worked as a medical sales prepresentative during my younger years so i more or less have an idea about common diseases. however, as the years pass, my memory falters and i turn to the web for more information. i do agree with you, if i feel it's serious, i would go to the hospital.

I'd say I still consult doctors first if I have any health concerns. But I have to admit that the internet has also become like a second opinion source of information. I do search the internet and would feel more confident about my situation when I can find supportive information in addition to what the doctors say.

Sometimes when I know my sickness is not that serious I always check it to the internet and find some home remedies like what happen to me when I got some eczema on my arms I check it online and I found some ways to cure it in a natural way and it heals just by putting baking soda.. anyways I know it is best to seek professional help whenever you have problems regarding your health I always do it but if I think there is a home remedy and natural way to cure me why not..

So far I have been lucky to be hit only with flu or fever, so I do not bother with either the doctor or the internet, just panadol and lots of rest. However, I will prefer to see the doctor rather than use the web, I feel better to have been checked physically rather than rely on the internet.

Hi Dagami :) I must disagree with you when you said you're taking health for granted by not going to the doctor. I know they're professionals but they also misdiagnose or just tell you its nothing, so you waste time for that. And just like most people, they search the net first to have an idea of what might the doctor diagnose of your condition. Plus home remedies are recommended by doctor so you won't panic and won't hurt yourself more. It's like a first aid. If it doesn't alleviate pain or any discomfort, then that's the time to go to your nearest hospital or clinic. Oh! And additionally, sometimes you need to set an appointment with doctor that isn't always available unlike the trustee old Internet, always available and has a lot of results. :D Thanks for the discussion :)

my doc is available only 3 hours a day for five days a week. he doesn't do consultations during weekends. we don't need to fix an appointment to visit him. sometimes i have work so when i feel just a bit sick, i usually go to work and i don't even take medicines if i can still manage myself. if the symptoms persist, i turn to doc web for more information before i finally make a visit to my doctor.

If it is not necessary, I don't want to go to see a doctor. First, it is always crowded in the hospital and you have to spend long time waiting for your turn. Second, today I think the doctors often give us many medicine and some of them are not necessary at all. They do so because they can make a profit from the medicine. This is why today I don't really trust the doctors.

i know what you mean about doctors earning from the medicines. i worked as a medical sales representative before and i've had first hand experience in this.
aside from getting more information on health problems. i also surf the net because i want to avoid the long line of patients at my doctor's clinic.

Hy dagami,
I think that we all know most of the time what is wrong with us if we take the time to find out, and I mean not look into the internet or some book with remedies. But really ponder what is not going right in our life. Sometimes the situations in which we are in and the thoughts we have can make us sick.
The doctor does not know all these details of our life, we do. So everyone has a responsibility to think about what it really is that caused us to be sick.-

I was giving you the option of looking at sickness in some other way than the usual, you are describing here.
I was talking about taking responsibility for your state of being. What really made you be sick in the first place was somehow someway you yourself.- For better understanding read up on Louise L. Hay.-
