This past few days my boyfriend and I had been watching old movies such as Serendipity, Harry Potter series, A walk to remember, Taken, and a lot more. We just find old movies to be more appealing and sentimental. Do you love watching movies? What movies have you watched before that you keep on viewing till now?

I also love watching movies. I have already watched the movies you mentioned. I also like Titanic, The Notebook, The Lord of the Rings, A Moment to Remember, Three Idiots, and such. My favorite is A Crazy Little Thing Called Love (First Love) because I can relate to the characters very much. I was able to incorporate their story with mine.

OMG! I was going to start a discussion but I say this and I had to respond. I am flabbergasted that you say that Taken is an old movie. I know it didn't come out yesterday, so it isn't new, but it just kind of struck me as funny that you are talking about these titles as if they have been in the oscar vault for the last seventy years.
Any way, not trying to be mean or rude. I was just entertained by your perspective.

I really love watching old movies, but the old movies I love aren't the new ones that have been mentioned so far in this discussion.
I love watching the old Ealing type comedies such as "The Lavender Hill Mob", "Too Many Crooks", "First Men in the Moon" and the Will Hay films.
Or a good thriller like "Murder at the Gallop" or "Sailor Beware".
When you look back, there are so many good films from the past in so many genres, why restrict yourself to the modern films.

Me too. I found myself watching old movies this past couple of weeks. I just love to watch ancient and modern war movies. I also love Martial Arts movie. One of my favorite is Platoon. A 1986 film I guess which won a Best Picture Award. If you like action movies, you better check this one out and you'll never regret it. lol

I like watching old movies like The Last Samurai of Tom Cruise. It is value-laden movie. I always show this movie to the young who have not seen it. At the end, they would clap their hands. I like also Seabiscuit. It never fail to inspire my young audience. And my favorite of all time With Honors of Brendan Fraser. I like also Serendipity.

You mentioned Seabiscuit. Have you ever seen Secretariat? It's based on a true story like Seabiscuit. Secretariat was an amazing race horse. He set records and accomplished feats that no other race horse may ever equal or break. He was definitely in a league by himself. If you haven't seen it, watch it. It truly is an amazing story.

It such a wonderful memory, reminiscing when you have watched an old movie that you had enjoyed. Like the memories being brought back when you have heard an old song that you loved or an old familiar scent.

Oh yes I really love watching old movies, especially movies from my childhood. They just bring back a lot of good memories. I love to watch "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" because I remember it from when I was little. I too also like to watch the Harry Potter movies because I am a huge Harry Potter fan.

Oh, good grief. Where do I start? I do enjoy watching movies. I even collect them. I currently have over 970 on DVD and Blu-Ray. I don't watch movies as often as I used to because I stay pretty busy. But just to name a few that I watch again and again from time to time there is Star Wars, Titanic, Saving Private Ryan, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Patriot, The Man In The Iron Mask, Tombstone, and Pearl Harbor. There really is many more I could add to the list.

Yeah, I've got two or three. LOL I never really got into Peter Sellers or Cary Grant. Cary was well before my time and Peter, I guess, was doing films that at the time, growing up, just didn't interest me. I do like Clint Eastwood, both as an actor and director. I don't think he's ever done a bad movie. While he made a name for himself as an actor I think, over time, he may be remembered more for his directing ability. Clint has a unique way of telling a story about the harsh realities of life yet in the end he always touches the heart in some way. I like Space Cowboys, Heartbreak Ridge, Million Dollar Baby, his most recent movie, Trouble With The Curve, and of course his old westerns.
I agree. Some movies can never and should never be redone. Not so much because they could probably never be done as well as the original but because some movies have in some way achieved a level of immortality as much as it is possible for a movie to do. Could you imagine someone doing a remake of Gone With The Wind? It would be almost sacrilegious. I just think some movies have earned the right to never be redone. To do so would demean what that movie has accomplished.

Hi! LOL--970??? And I thought I had a fair few!
Some of the ones you mentioned I can get into..saw the Star Wars series as I had some time to myself, had some small things to do, and needed a trip around the galaxy! Other times I watch Clint Eastwood, Peter Sellers, or Cary Grant films as many are really worth seeing again....especially when the TV programming can be on the dull side. Ever seen any and if so, which ones in particular do you like? For Peter, I like the Pink Panther series, Clint: Space Cowboys, and Cary Grant...North by Northwest.
Some can never be redone as anyone would be hard pressed to do the same film and to do it just as well as the originals did. I'm not saying impossible but...hard to do, let alone sell.
Enjoy!

I was thinking black and white films as being old. I guess old films mean different things to different people.

I also love old movies but I prefer those that are a lot "older" than what you mentioned. Some of the movies which were made long before I was born are some of my favorites like those starring Humprey Bogart, Clark Gable, Robert Taylor, Clint Eastwood and so many more. Some of these movies were made in the 1940s and 1950s without any technical effects but they can be considered as classics. I recently viewed Casablanca, The Dirty Dozen, Towering Inferno which was produced in the 70's including Sound of Music. One of my favorites is Sleepless in Seattle which is not actually that ancient. Why not try viewing Star Wars Series where you might appreciate a younger Harrison Ford?

Just a few days ago, I watched Pursuit of Happiness, I think it’s a good movie with a very good moral values in it. It’s quite an old movie, but I feel it sends the beautiful message in it. And I also watched a movie ( I think it’s quite old) which I don’t know the title, since it’s being shown in a café which I visited, though I don’t watch it until finish, but it’s pretty good.

I love watching old movies. They are like memorials from the old past. When you watch old movies you could remember your friends and experiences. The best old movie for me is animation called
Lion King :) . I would love to watch the other animations from my childhood , too.

oh my, Lion King. I think I was around seven or eight when I watched it and I can still remember how I was able to memorize the song right away. (I actually have a cheat sheet from my shirt back then. The print was the lyrics of 'Can you feel the love tonight'). Wow, I missed those times so much, seriously.

I also love movies, especially old ones. I enjoy many types of movies: drama, comedy, old musicals, some sci-fi, and even Disney and Warner Brothers movies. I still cry when watching old Disney stuff (Dumbo, Bambi, Lady and the Tramp, and more). I bawled watching ET, and I've seen that a number of times. My brother passed away 2 years ago, and I inherited his DVD collection (about 250 movies). I'll spend the rest of my life watching them. I have so many favorites, and it would be impossible to list them all.

Those are very interesting movie list that you have in there. Every time that I will be watching a Disney movie and will be hearing the instrumental part at the beginning, I cant help feeling something, like sense of familiarity or happy childhood. I just can't put the right word to it.

I love the movies period. I especially love the older movies like the 1930 through the 1950's. Those years were the best movies ever in my opinion. Such as "Gone with the Wind," "Sound of Music," "West Side Story," to name a few. I also love any western with Clint Eastwood or John Wayne in it. I love the old black and whites with Bette Davis or Barbara Stanwyck. These were movie stars with class and beauty who also lived mysterious lives. We didn't hear about everything that was always going on in their lives like we hear about it now. That is what may them more mysterious.

Hi! I often do this myself when there is a dull period on and it depends on the mood I am in. Sometimes I just hear a name, listen to a theme song, or see a scene and it reminds me of a certain actor or film; 'Family Matters' when Steve Urkel "changes" into Bruce Lee and suddenly, I want to see Bruce Lee films. Sometimes I'll widen my range; I hear the North By Northwest theme and not only do I want to see the film but others that Cary Grant starred in but are just not as well known.
Ever seen these? If not and if you're curious, try the library or perhaps Netflix.

Same as you I appreciate more watching old movies. I admired old movies for their simplicity.
