It's going down and down and down

About a week and a half ago, I took our car out to a business meeting. I noticed it was driving a bit strange, but didn't pay too much mind. I only go out once a week if I'm lucky, and my boyfriend Jim didn't say anything. But when I got home, it was dark and there weren't lights for me to take a look. I mentioned it to Jim, who said he'd check it when he got to work. He showed me when he got home that our right front tire was really low-like 10 pounds of air! We got it blown up at the local market, but it lost air again. His first thought was that someone was doing it deliberately. He started thinking it might have been our neighbor. I didn't think they were that petty. But then one day I was unable to put air in it, so he took the tire off. He was upset-he thought the tire had been cut! We took it to the service station, and they put air in it. It didn't have a cut, nor any noticeable leaks, but suggested we replace it. That was a few days ago. But yesterday, it was bad. When I got out of the library, it was worse. I went straight to the supermarket I was at before, and put in another 30 pounds of air. Then I called the service station and told him we needed a tire. I'm getting ready to leave and have a new one put on. We will also get them rotated. I guess it was lucky I got that check the other day!

I'm glad to hear that you got your tire changed before anything else went wrong. It is so frustrating the way things happen. It often seems things happen one right after another. We hardly have time to catch our breathe from one hardship to the next.

I am glad to hear that you have changed tire and hope everything gets well after that.

Multiple things can cause a tire to leak air slowly. Dry rot or a faulty seal in the valve stem are two likely culprits if no obvious punctures from a nail or other foreign object is present. A bad seal around the edge of the rim could also be to blame. Sometimes the best option is just to get a new tire. If that doesn't solve the problem, you may want to have the rim inspected for defects or warping.

It went back down overnight, so right after I filled it up, I called the garage-and ended up purchasing a new one. We'll save up the money for the other one as soon as possible to keep the tread as even as possible.

hi scorpiopbabes that was evidently a bad tire. I am glad you are getting a new tire. What if the tire had blown out on the freeway leaving you stranded unless you could get to a call box. Here on Southern California freeways they are few and far between. Of course now days everyone has a cellphone and I forgot that.

Oh, I was doing 55+ on I-95 during rush hour IN Philadelphia when I had one-scary stuff! I don't know how I managed to switch lanes (I was in the center lane), but I managed to pull over safely. Trying to change the tire proved hysterical though-I immediately broke a nail (that HURT!) plus I was in heels in a skirt! Fortunately, a nice guy in a suit came and changed my tire. This was in 1991 or 1992. I had a second blow out in 2010, on my way home from MD. Route 295 (also called the North-South Freeway in Jersey) was under construction. Since I was going north to Burlington County, I decided to skip the local traffic portion and take the single-lane through way. I think I had just entered it when I heard a loud BOOM! and the car became hard to handle. It was dark and raining, and the lane was just a single lane, with mud on either side. I had no choice but to continue, so I quick hit my 4-ways and began praying because I had someone tailgating me-and 55 mph ( the posted) wasn't fast enough. I think God was looking out for me because I drove like a mad woman for about 7 or 8 miles like that! Thank God no one was on my right when the through way ended because I made a beeline for the shoulder. I had to find someone to pick me up (no small feat at 9 on a Sunday night) and make arrangements to get the tire changed. I did get the donut put on. I bent the wheel driving like that, so I called around and found another Sebring wheel to match, but I had to drive 55 miles north to Lambertville from home, pick it up and come home to get it put on my car. You're only supposed to drive 50 miles on those things!

Glad that you have taken the precaution to have it changed into a new tyre. It is very risky to travel on the road with poor performance tyre. I did witness a van's tyre burst in front of my car in the highway. Fortunately I was driving at a low speed but was behind him. I heard a loud explosion and managed to slow down and avoid hitting it . I used to pump my tyre air on a weekly basis when I refill my petrol. The mechanic advises me to have it pump regularly so that the tyre will not wear out so quickly. He also taught me to send for doing cross tyre, allignment/balancing every three to four months.

We knew we'd be replacing both front tires, but we didn't quite have enough yet to do that. I think in better about checking the pressure than my boyfriend is-he would leave it for me to do, so I purchased a new tire gauge and keep it in the car.

Hello there. I believe in checking everything before going anywhere. I have kids, and I always bug my brother, who drives for us, that he should always be sure that there won't be any problem while on the road. :) At least you knew it and now you won't have any problem. :)

I'm pretty good at checking the car, but he was parked very close to the curb, so it was hard to tell. Once I started driving, it was obvious. My father was always checking our cars when I first started driving, but he did show me how to check my fluids. I learned how to charge my battery up or give it a charge. It's too hard for me to change a tire-it's too heavy for me to pick it up.

hi scorpiobabes! preserve & reserve! driving is a responsibility. the car needs a lot of maintenance to preserve its functionality. if we do not check it as often as we should, we wouldn't know when it's gonna stop serving us. angels wont always be there to save us from danger. we need to think of reserving our life by keeping up a safe trip everytime we drive. :)ProfGail

That is why I called the mechanic right after I put air in the tire. He needed time to order one in, but I got it put on yesterday. And we'll be saving up to replace the other side as soon as possible, as well as having them rotated and balanced.

I think most probably you check the tires and see if the problem is with tires and also it is good to check the car fully and see everything is all right.

I just got a new tire yesterday, and we had the entire car checked out a few months ago. It'll be back in for an oil change within the month, and our mechanic is great about checking the car out.

It's good that you are replacing the tire. As was mentioned above, a variety of things can cause a leaky tire. Your boyfriend is a bit quick to jump to conclusions about things, though. Unless you have one of those neighbors from the netherworld who is on the fast track to being behind bars in a psych ward (I've had a couple over the years), that was a strange assumption to which to jump.

Actually, we've been having parking issues. Two days ago, Doug parked his work truck out front in front of our car, and backing up first, I still was unable to see around the fender. We've heard him through the front door cursing because we took 'his' spot-on the street! And they will move their vehicles in position, instead of walking like many others do. But his first thought was that someone at work was letting the air out, and he does work with some shady characters. That's the main reason we are looking to move-they're coming out of the city into the suburbs.
