my nephew had fever reaching 39.6C. he's also feeling kind of weak so we brought him to the clinic this afternoon. our worry is that he might have dengue or convulsion.
when he had his urine tested, there was some percentage of blood on it. it was like UTI. the doctor said it might be because of too much junk food and soft drinks.
well, i think it's a point to change his lifestyle. he's 4 years old ans he said he understood what the doctor said about junk foods. we have actually been lessening his consumption of junk foods the past few days. so i guess it will not be that difficult to follow what the doctor said.

Four years old seems awfully young to be experiencing these problems. Also seems unusual to be able to understand what the doctor said about his eating habits. At that age it should be easy to limit his junk food intake. After all he is a child and presumably his parents will control his diet.
I used to eat much more junk food than I do now. As I get older (I will be 60 in June) I find I have lost the desire for a lot of the things I used to eat. Not really from any desire to improve my diet, I just don't like some of the things I used to like.
I still eat whatever I want to even though I do have some health problems that are diet related. I am diabetic now but it is under control with medication and diet control.
Your diet does have consequenses regarding your health. It's very good that your nephew will be improving his diet at an early age. Hopefully he will not have future problems with his health.

you know what he kind of understand everything about his diet. i once offered him that we buy some chocolates and he said "no". sometimes i pity him that he can't eat what other kids usually eat. but he must understand that it's for his own good.

It is a blessing that he does understand certain things are not good for him. Usually young children will insist on getting what they want and have a little fit for it. It sounds like your nephew is on the right track to good health. I hope he stays on track with it.

well as much as possible i don't want him to expose to things that are not good for him. he's still a kid so he won't understand everything.

Hi there, I had same situation before, UTI as per the doctor called it, I'm rushed to the hospital by that time, having the temperature reaching almost 40C. I stayed a week there for monitoring, everyday, I am given twice medication through antibacterial injection. The feeling was like your going to die because of the burning effect in your body. It really made me shout when the attending nurse gave me that medication. That's why I promised myself never to take salty foods, drink more liquids aside from soft drinks. Now, I am enjoying my healthy lifestyle, being free from any infection. So glad to have fully recovered.

I hope the doctor gave him antibiotics or at least ordered tests. A child doesn't have such a high temperature and illness just from eating junk food. Of course, a healthier diet will support a stronger immune system and the excess sugar and chemicals in junk food and drink won't help - but that's a long term change. I trust the doctor is addressing the infection as well.

Too much junk food and soft drinks will really cause urinary track problem because it will male your urine more concentrated does will making your urinary track conducive for bacterial growth. There are a lot of cause of urinary track infections, and it is right that too much eating junk foods and drinking soft drinks will really cause the said problem. And so it is really important to drink a reasonable amount of water every day. Stay healthy my friends, have a nice day!

Junk food do taste good and liked by children, But they are so unhealthy and not good to be consumed especially for kids who are in the growth state. Their brain need good nutritions too, not to mention, their health also need to be considered. So it’s good if you limit his junk food intake. For his health and his brain too.

Too much eating of junk foods and street foods (if you have this on your country) is really bad. There are many ways and, probably, easy ways to get different kind of illness from too much eating of junk foods. The better way to do now is to refrain from eating similar foods like before and start eating healthy foods. 4 years of age but already suffering from UTI? It's bad!

I just wonder how these companies that make and sell these kind of foods were given the go ahead by the government. Is it because of the taxes and revenues they get from them. Maybe, but how about the bad effects these junk foods gave us in return especially to the children. The name itself said, it's not good for the body.
I think, parents should always tell/advice their children about the bad effects of eating too much junk food.

I remember my mom buying me and brother Chippy, Cheese Curls and Granny Goose for snacks when we were kids. Our nanny would buy as a big can of assorted biscuits, different kinds of bread from the bakery, bananacue and camoteque. But I am glad that we grew up not having any ailments.
Nowadays, I can see the change of eating habits of kids. They would prefer eating junk food replacing their meals which is really bad. I am proud to say that I do not buy such junk food for my kids. I am afraid of them getting sick. They actually do not crave for it. They would just have a taste of it when they see their cousins eating them. I would often be scolding them for having to eat junk foods when they are supposed to be eating their meals instead. My sister in law tolerates it coz she doesn't want to be bothered when she is in front of her laptop or ipad.

Better discipline him early about nutritional food. It would be harder to take away junk food from him if he is already older and addicted to it. Junk food does not do any good to our body but satisfy our taste bud.

Hi ! Junk foods are not good in our body . From the name itself " junk " which means garbage , it does no good to our body . It is so salty and full of preservatives. It have these ingredients that destroys a kidney . Mostly junk food causes UTI and other urinary problem . To some schools , these kinds of food are banned. It is better to eat a bread or a vegetables.

Thanks for the topic as it will genuinely make aware about the curse of junk food. The problem is so common that it makes me panic. The young people specially feel great attraction to junk food and sometimes it turns to addiction. Their all faculties are gradually dying because of their life style and eating habit.

I had UTI several times already, like your nephew, because of junk foods and not drinking enough water daily. It's been a year now since I last suffered frequent UTI attacks. What i did was to totally change my diet and make sure that i drink 8-10 glasses of water ( i made use of a chart to monitor my drinking). Drinking coconut juice is good for those who have UTI but according to my doctor, water is still the best liquid we can take.

Those kind of stuff were really UTI enhancer. It is the common problem on children quitely because some parents can't look over properly on their children's type of foods eaten and their are also some children who will eat these stuff secretly even they are advised not to. Precautions are better that cure.
But for me, I believe that children can hardly follow on this precaution , these are their favorite foods to eat .Hence they just be advised to drink plenty of water after eating these stuff. Maybe they just need to understand like that.

it seems that children all love to eat junkfoods and drink some juice or cola.my nephew is 9 years old. having three meals is a big problem to him.he doesn't like to eat rice and vegetables.it nearly takes him one hour to swallow a small bowl of rice .conversely, every time his mother takes him out,he is very very happy as he can eat some junkfoods .he can eat a big hamburge and a hotdog and drink a large glass of cola.why are the junkfoods so popular among the children, although they taste terribly and are harmful to people's health?
