We all have habits, habits that will stick till the end of time no matter where we are,and the progress we would have made in our life. Have you given up your old habits. How hard was it for you to do that or are you a slave of your habits.
Do share.

Hello Allknowing some years back I discovered I used to victimize, this was a bad and old habit. I was weak, now I face my responsibilities and faults.
I don´t have any odd habit like bitting my nails, or swallowing paper. I´d prefer.
Blessings Allknowing... dainy

You mean you made a martyr of yourself? Some do that wanting attention and if over done that can keep their friends and family at bay.
So you are a good girl now wit no bad habits Great!

hi allknowing!
very true, old habits are hard to break!
we need all the determination in the world to make it come to end. true, we should not allow ourselves to be slaves to such habit; and so we've got to really find all sorts of healthier activities to divert our attention. The commitment that we give to accomplish its breaking would really play big role! :)

Two of my habits come to my mind; one is something that has caused me unhappiness and am trying to get over it. –I talk too much. I am trying to get over it.
The second one is not too desirable but I am made that way and cannot change.; my people have got used to this and love me for it.Since it gives me joy and keeps me going I may not change ;-I am a dreamer and slightly idealistic. I am often accused of not “walking on the ground and looking at the clouds while walking” [this is referred to whenever I refuse to see the darker side of a person]— Ironically I am quite practical also in many areas. [Am I making sense or am I ambiguous?”]
So, my loved ones have got resigned to the former.

I too have that habit of getting in the middle of a conversation not allowing others to complete what they have to say. I too am trying to do something about this.
I hope you are not a Gemini who are famous for being ambiguous. I am!

I am still impatient, childish and emotional. These are a few bad habits that I cannot get rid of. I know, many dont consider them to be habits but then, I dont munch on my nails or even dont scratch myself

Why does everyone think that biting nails is one of the worst bad habits. There are many worse than that.
Being emotional, childish and such is not considered to be bad habits but personality traits. If you can live with your habits and others around you are not disturbed carry on with your habits.

The only thing that I really could not give up on is having my nails painted in red! I just have loved using that color since i got married. Maybe it is because I really tried to stay away from it when I was single. People here would be staring at you if you are a single woman wearing such color on your nails.

This is interesting. What has colour got to do with a single girl being banned from using it. Red is such a beautiful colour. When I was in my teens that was the only colour available. I used to grow my nails and paint them with gay abandon!
I hope they did not mind someone giving you a red rose, those days!

You are just so funny, allknowing! I hate red roses. I'd rather have the white ones.
Some people here associate the red color as being a wh**e. Absurd, right? So I would just use shades of brown and pink during those times.

Hi,
Old habits die hard and please don't kill them if you enjoy those habits (obviously all the good habits i mean).
Most of them have metnioned the nail biting habits and i used to bite nails during college times. It was not hard for me to stop as i gradually stopped them as i got busy with job, further studies etc.

You stopped nail biting because you gained confidence. Nail biting is a sign of nervousness

No, some habits that I possess were taught to me as a child and from these I will not depart. However, I do believe that good manners are caught as opposed to taught. I think that I am normally very polite and well mannered and only turn into a rotweiler when a member of my family is attacked in any way. So in some respects I could be considered as a slave to these habits but a willing slave. I am also hot on punctuality and dislike being kept waiting as I would not keep someone waiting.
But we can be a slave to bad habits and these are hard to give up because they are simply that - a habit. Good habits equally take time to develop so we have to keep doing the good thing repeatedly - so again it becomes what it is - a habit. Was it hard to give up a bad habit? Yes, it was as I had to make a conscious effort not to do it.

Good or bad, habits die hard. Even habits like my wanting a pillow to cuddle a habit formed from the time I was a kid I cannot give up. I cannot say if it is a good habit or a bad one but a habit all the same. I have worked hard to give up my habit of licking my lips.
If by being a slave to habits it makes one a good individual then it is good to be a slave to habits. I have several of them which I will cling to no matter what.
I like your habit of being anywhere on time. I share that habit with you.
Long live good habits!

Yes i have given up many of my old habits like the habit of drinking Coke, daily.i used to drink Coke a lot ,at one point of time i was drinking more coke than water. However i am not sure if its fair to call it a habit as it as like kind of addiction and then another habit was skipping work outs.So the cumulative effect was that my weight got increased by thirty pounds. It was very painful to lose weight again and get back in shape,so now i have given up those habits totally. So no coke for me ,cheers with empty glass.

You are absolutely right. Some of my habits like scratching my head lightly whenever I sweat a lot, because my first sweat comes from my head. I tried to change this habit, but I could not. Fortunately or unfortunately that habit occurs automatically whenever I sweat. I didn't get addict to it, but, it is happening.

I have never heard of this habit Your hand must be automatically going there whenever you sweat. You must have been doing this right from the time you were a baby! and at that time you must have looked quite cute doing it

yeah, i had this habit way back before. it pertains to my bad attitude. so, i must say that it is not so easy more if your enemy is yourself. i chastised and talked myself to be good if i do not want miseries in life. somehow, i conquered it even not to the fullest degree. that is why when it comes back, i will really find way to stop it again. it is really hard to change when it is being already implanted in your system. but nothing is impossible in God. lift everything else to HIM and He will be the incharge of everything in your life, amen :) thanks

Having a bad attitude could perhaps be a personality trait rather than a bad habit that needs to be controlled. The fact that you are aware of it will go a long way in setting matters right. My good wishes are with you .
Have you been displaying that here?

Someday i will stop drinking this Coke just not now , really need it very badly for it is very hot here in our place and drinking it makes me smile , happy and completes my day...lol ! I am bad..

I agree old habits die hard. But it also depend on the way we look and perceive the things. I mean my biggest issue is untidiness gives me lot of irritation, i mean if my table is messy with unwanted stuff or papers or bed sheet is not proper, i feel i am living in dirty place and my first priority is clean and arrange things, when my niece comes to our place within few hours full house is total mess, even we keep trying to arrange, but that time even i feel little uncomfortable, still i manage, other time it become really unmanageable for me to control.

That is every one's story life. I am an organised person but I need help to do those chores. When my maid is not around I do have a messy table but I just cannot accept the situation and feel miserable. I don't think it is a bad habit but a requirement in our life.

changing or stoping old habits is really difficult but possible for those who believe in their power and possibilities... well, I think it is better to change habits to better ones... in that way we can get more result but if just we try to stop old habits will be difficult... so my idea is just to replace those habits with new habits..

It is very hard to give up hold habits. But we have to work hard to replace them with habits we like. I'm continually working on the new goals and habits I would like for myself.

Some are very hard to break. What I have noticed is if those around us do not bring them to our notice getting rid of them takes more time. A constant reminder from our loved ones works as an impetus.

This is true, old habit do really die hard. They are like grass, they wither in the summer but come rainy days, they will sprout again. Some bad habits, I tried to stop, but unfortunately they stick around.

I have no problem getting rid of bad habits if I choose to. A lot of them I simply am not ready to part with yet. For example, I quit smoking after 13 years with no effort at all simply because it was making me feel sick one day. So I just threw what was left of my pack in the garbage and never smoked again. That was a year and a half ago.
I have other bad habits but I am not ready to quit yet so who knows, maybe when I am I will get rid of another one without any effort. It is all a state of mind afterall.

So you have a mind of steel - a rare quality. Giving up smoking just like that is a rare feat dion..... You have other bad habits which apparently you seem to have fun with. No worry I suppose. You can always give them up at the drop of a hat. Just curious to know what they are!
