My close friend and his girlfriend are staying in my house now, they actually were living in a flat they own and did buy from their hard earned money. But they were in a live in relationship, one day bunch of people from their building threatened my friend that people like "them" have no place in civilized society and he cant live here with his "keep".He even called police and they ensured that no one can throw them out from the building, but the behavior and taunts of the neighbors continued and they had to leave the building to shift in my house temporarily till they find another place. The thing is people call it effect of western culture and oppose it,actually most of the cars we use are made by foreign companies, most of us wear Jeans ,Tshirt etc which are western dresses too, we so gladly eat western foods like Pizza ,Burgers etc,but when it comes to live in relationships suddenly we realize that this will destroy Indian culture. Why disrespect a couple in love? would you do the same? If i am not wrong India is a democracy and there is freedom of choice here, harassing people in name of culture is ridiculous.

You have said that you have a democratic form of government, so you have your freedom of choice to do what you like as long as you are not hurting anyone or breaking any law.
So what if your friend and his partner lives without the blessings of their religion's head, I think it's not a sin as long as they are not bothering other people.

Yes there is system of democracy here ,however there are many people who dont follow it because they dont know what democracy is all about.Harassment in the name of culture is disappointing but unfortunately it happens.

The whole thing is very wrong. Can they get the law to help them settle the whole thing. They should not have to give up a place that they own,. so very wrong...

Yes actually law can help but to a certain extent but they have to live in the building ,cops cant be there 24*7 so those people can harass the couple in many ways.Unfortunately when someone has backward thinking it very difficult to change them or convince them.India is actually a democratic country and live in relationships are recognized by law, however there are many people who don't even know the meaning of democracy. Thanks a lot for your response.

The nerve of the people to interefere! Why would they act that way? Is it because it is against their religion? Did their religion tell them to forsake people, too?

Its a cultural thing actually but those fools are not aware about their own culture.Indian society in the past was much more open minded ,there are many instances of live in relationships in Indian history and people in those days more readily accepted all this.People don't do research or study they act according to their wrong interpretations and harass people like that. Thanks a lot for your response.

That people should mind their own business, they should not stick their noses to other lives. They are not the one providing them for living. They should not be harass (the couple) as long as they are not hurting or stepping other lives. As long as they live peacefully and lovingly, they have the right to chose the life they want to. Its their life anyway.

Yes of-course ,that should happen ideally.Who are they to dictate when the relationship of couple is fair according to constitution and law.Actually democracy does not mean that if 99 out of 100 think that something is right then it actually becomes right.Driving the society by wrong interpretations is ridiculous. Thanks a lot for your response.

wow man that sucks so much. Seriously.
Tell them to sell the place.
Buy a place in the outer edges of the city away from the masses of people and the dense living with other people.
And i guess probably they can sell for a higher price and buy another place at lower price a little out of the city. So then they get to live together and be cool with nobody to bother them. Plus they get to keep some money. Plus the get to be away from people=away from trouble.
It's a win-win-win situation, if you ask me mate. :)

That's a good suggestion my friend ,will surely pass that on.What they told me is actually this time before buying another place they will make sure everyone is ok with their relationship and all that. But they will face such treatment every now and then, its inevitable. However i suggested them to get married,if you cant change the situation and problem ,you adjust accordingly. That is just my opinion though. Thanks a lot for your response.

Sorry for sounding cynical but its hard to find a place like this here where few people have liberal mindset.Live in relationships are acceptable by law here, there is nothing illegal about it.Thanks a lot for your response.

Actually India is a democratic country too,but the sad thing is there are many people who neither believe in democratic ways nor they are open minded. Thanks a lot for your response.
