Yesterday I got the statement from my health insurance for all of 2012 and read it wrong making myself think I owed nine thousand dollars. I was really upset then got to thinking this cannot be so reread it and every item on there had been paid for by uy insurance except for a tiny bill of ten dollars. boy was I relieved, to make this discussable have you my lotters ever mistunderstood something and had a scare only to find out it was all okay?

Oh, nine thousand dollars (wohhh) I haven't been scared like that my dear, but yes there are incidents that almost made me jump off my feet. I can't imagine what would be my reaction either seeing a bill of nine thousand dollars. Anyway, another bluff for the day I guess dear Hatley

A financial jolt like that might be enough to cause a heart attack or stroke. I am glad Hatley read further and learned that she could afford the debt. I would not have wanted her to get sick with worry.

hi jaiho and gardengerty It was odd that even after I realized the bill was allpai but ten dollars I was still trembling bu t I have astrong heart. Comon sense overtook shock and I realized if I had owed ant medical bills in 2012 I would have been billed right alogn in that year.So I reread it line by line andrrealized My HMO had paid all but ten dollars and for that it said I must wait for the bill.

I read something differently the other day. I got an accounts statement from a Company I had never heard of. It was a mutual fund. I was confused. I just wondered who could have gifted me with a mutual fund. A pretty good amount too. I decided to call them and then they told me that they had bought a company where I already have a mutual fund. I get so much of paper by post that sometimes I do not open it. An announcement must have been made about this transfer. So no windfall Hatley but just a tranfer!

hi hatley. good thing it was all sorted out and you didn't have to pay much for your health insurance. anyway, this sort of thing happened to me a lot back in the day when i receive my credit card bill. i would normally check on-line how much my bill was and i'll comletely pay it off. imagine my surprise everytime i get the actual bill, charging me for the stuff and services i've already paid off!!! it was not a pretty sight! that's why i decided to do away with my actual bills and go paperless. i now get my bills online. less stress for me... hehehehehehe!!!

Hello Hatley, A few times yes that has happened to me as well. We thought we had to pay much much more and it was less its the way they explain things most often. Not so long back one of my kids was being bothered by a Credit Card company as well and he did not even have anything with them at all. In the end they gave up calling it happens they were calling from abroad and they were a scam as well.xxx

hi lovinganelsinstead21 I was harrassed for a master; card debt of 1799 dollars and i had never even had a master card and they swore an be damned that was my bill and they had my old addresses and my social security number yet I owed nobody any 1700 dollars on a master card.so they finally did give up after four phone calls from them and my insisting that I had never had a master card from them. each time I told her I will not pay a debt I do not owe

Hello Hatley, I really love that evil grin emoticon shows defiance and spirit. You tell them gal don´t let them bully you. One of my kids like I said was being bothered by those kind of people and they even started to do the same thing with us until I started to mention that I was going to report this to the Police and there was not one call after that not one. I know you don´t owe anything they will do whatever they can to get you to pay this goes on over here and they bother any kind of person too. Keep those lovely avatars coming too I really like them so different. This system I have has obliterated windows paint off the face of the earth and I can´t get it back either.xxx

It is not unusual for me to do that on health statements. I recently read a line as being $600 on my husband's bill, but it was not. That was the code for what he had done. I am so pleased you only owe ten dollars. Most of us can manage to pay that in a reasonable amount of time.

Yeah I have had scares like that before as well. A few years back I got my credit card bill in the mail but I waited until the next morning to open it up. I was not really awake when I did and my eyes were also still a little bit blurry, so I thought it was 1000 dollars instead of 100, I was so confused that I yelled out some curse words :p. Once I realized my mistake, I calmed down and just like you, I was so relieved.

hi spicy sweetie I was letting myself get panicked when it dawned on me my insurance if there was a co pay would have billed me during the year not after it was over.So I reread it and each and every item had been paid by my HMO so all I owed was a measly ten dollars. and it told me do not sent a payment until we bill you.

Ohhhh yeah I've had those freaky scary moments! They're no fun! It's almost like having a heart attack! But then the relief of knowing it's not what you thought can be just as scary although relieving because you're still wound up like a 10 day clock and then you just fall apart. Nope. Don't like those kinds of surprises! No no no.....

hi catsanddogs yes I agree as it took me a good hour to completely get over it. I reread that paper four times just to be sure I was seeing what I hoped I was and of course I was as my hmo would not have gone a whole year if I owed anything at all so every thing was paid in full leaving just a ten dollar deficit which they told me to wait till I received the bill.

I think financial statements will always cause confusion when you do not know where to look for it. Like yourself, you will have to reread everything before you finally realize that you are not heavily in debt. Statements are generated from a system and they are almost about the same, so we will need to check your final balances which are usually located at a specific place of the prints. You can take a few past statements to compare and know where you should look for it. Otherwise, you will be scaring yourself more for nothing like this instance here.

Hi Hatley, however you relieved from a wryness. Though insurance company paid the bill, your medical spending is too high. Before you become worried remember the proverb :"think before you ink".

hi cynthiann and bhanusb yes indeed good one. Here in California the cost of medical procedures like mri and cat scans and such things are indeed sky high,If I did not have medicare and my hmo I would be in real trouble. For example five years ago I fell and fractured my left should so badly I had to have a bionic shoulder joint. the cost was 76 thousand dollars so if I had not had medicare and my hMO I would have been really in trouble as they paid it all.

I had something the opposite of that. When I worked for the big company over 2 years ago, we had dental benefits. I lost that benefit when I moved the company that I am in now. I went to the dentist recently, and I had some work done. Then I was scheduled for the next appointment, but they said that I had to sign some papers. Thank goodness I re-read it, because it in fact said I had to pay almost $2500 out of pocket because I didn't have the benefit anymore. It's been a few months, and I have not been back to the dentist.

wow I have a whole mouth full of dental wrk I need done and cannot afford it as my dental plan attached to my HMO is only three hundred dollars which would not make a dent in my dental work needed But at least I owe only ten dollars not nine thousand.I sure did scare myself.

Health insurance and bank statements are always too difficult for me to understand. I remember I couldn't understand any of it the first time I held it in my hands. Even today I have to look at it several times before I can actually comprehend what it states. I can feel how relaxed you must have felt after knowing that you do not owe that huge amount on them. Cheers

The most regrettable experience would be is to go to insurance company, curse all the people there, blow your top only to find out I misread the letter. I am happy that you have thought to reread it. What happened to me ...it was a learning...an embarrasing leraning experience for me.

Hahaha! Poor Hatley! You must've gotten the scare of a lifetime! My husband has done this from time to time, including medical statements that clearly state "this is not a bill". Needless to say it drove me nuts! Making me worried we owed something we did not. That is, until I'd take a look and see. Then we'd both breath a sigh of relief! LOL Now, whenever we get something like that I just wait to see it myself. That way I can avoid worrying over nothing!

hi sacmom es I really jjumped to false conclusions. I went back and read each lino and the last line was headed health insurance paid so Ii went down the long list and realized they had paid all of that bill but ten dollars. Now that felt really good.

It's so confusing sometimes to sort out all those figures on an insurance statement. I usually have to read mine a couple of times before I know what the message is. I have had panic attacks from thinking I owed too much on a medical bill before, especially after a surgery where several different people have to be paid such as the surgeon, anesthesiologist, pathologist, etc. Down deep I am always afraid I have missed something in the small print and will end up owing more than I planned.

Oh yes, or I'll misread what my insurance covers and think that I can't afford that only to find it won't cost me as much..I am glad it wasn't nine thousand, that is a lot..

hi carm j know after scaring myself I stopped and realized if I had owed those bills they would have billed me for each one right along the last year so I checked it really thoroughly and found mh health insurance had paid all of each one but one final ten dollars.so I can handle that after the first of May..

hi dragon54u yeisd does not make sense as if I owed anythin last year I would have been billed for it then .So on rereading tracking each charge I found that my hmo had paid all of each one except fo one ten dollar charge, In this paperwork they also said do not send a payment until u get a bill for it.

hi cynthiann yes I think you have it as lately I have been harassed by some bill collecting company on a master card debt they claim I owe.the thing is I have never had a master card in mu life. My son says either these people are scam artists or they have the wrong hatley as there are a lot Hatleys that are not related to my husbands branch,So I tried to explain that to this very sharp tongued woman and all she would say is "I am just doing my job, But finally they have given up on me as I have no 1700 dollars to pay on a master card bill thats not mine. But I sure did scare myself into thinking I owed that money when my hmo has paid all but ten dollars,.That sure was a relief to me I bank on line and since I do not have a lot of income, just my social security and SSI checks which go to Gold Crest anyway I have no money problems there except I wish I had more money. But my lot has over the years helped my bank account and helped to pay for my cable internet..
