Before I came to Singapore, I studied in a very relaxing way. The teachers would always tell us what to revise for the test and give us assignments only for preparing tests.Besides the fixed amount of hw drawn up by the teachers, we were also able to spend the whole focusing on study. But here is totally different. The teacher will only give basic hw randomly and never give extra exercise for a coming test. We still need to attend CCA and participate in many other things like tomorrow's drama performence, next week's band concert, charity performence and choir and handbell combined concert... I know why I always cannot catch up with other friends who came to Singapore with me.I've not been used to this kind of busy schedule yet. These days I'm trying to plan well for every hour of my days. Everything seems to be smoother now since I have a strict schedule in my mind.

I know what you mean when you say that time management is very important especially when it comes to schoolwork. Right now I am working two jobs and I am taking one online botany class. It's fairly easy but the class is pretty up in the air and the students themselves decide a lot of their work schedule. We aren't given any homework to be due so it is hard to stay on schedule and it is hard to really practice what you are learning.
I'm trying to stay focused though because all I have to do is complete this course and I should have all of my prerequisites knocked out and I'll be able to start working on my bachelor's degree when the fall semester comes. My goal is to just try and stay focused so that way I can do well in this class and then hopefully go inot this next course with the possibility of gaining some good scholarships.

I feel the same way and sometimes have a hard time focusing as well but I found that I can study while watching television or listening to music. I too get worried about things and it throws off my studying schedule but if you can just find a little bit of time each day to look at your work and try to memorize it then that will help quite a bit I've found.
If I look at it before work and before I go to sleep I have things to think about and try to memorize so that way I can remember the information better for tests and exams.

Wow! You're so determined!
In China we have homework teachers planed meticulously for us.However, I need to plan homework for myself here. I'm still weak in this aspect now.
And it's hard for me to totally focus on one thing. I'm always distracted by some sudden concerns in class. Can you please teach me how to focus:?
Wish you achieve your goal and have a bright future!!:)

Yes Singapore has a very stressful education system. Even primary school students at the age of 7 have to take extra lessons outside of school to catch up. No not to do well, just to keep up with the others. It is sad that many of the children only have time for studies, CCA and school project work and nothing else.

That's true...Singapore students are very stressful. They don't want to fail in academic stuffs as well as their CCA( And the girls are more competitive than boys..) They use every possible opportunity to train their leadership also!

The right way to cope up with such hectic schedule is to make a properly planned technique on how to better manage your time. And also, having a positive attitude each time you start an activity will surely help a lot.

Hi,
Fast and hectic lifestyle has always been part of my student life back in the university: up at dawn, vespers and mass at six, breakfast, then rushing to class at eight until five in the afternoon, then it is sports and games practice until five, cleaning up, vespers again at six in the evening, dinner and study time till you drop near midnight and whole cycle begins again for the next day. Five years I endured this at the academy, I can say I have a more relaxed lifestyle now than then.

Five years! It's really a tough time:O
Though my study in Singapore is not like a cycle everyday because we have different remedial subblementary course, practice and activites distributed to different days:)Thank you for sharing your experience with me!I hope one day I can have a relaxed lifestyle...

We are just mostly comfortable in our home country that we got shocked when we go to another country and live a very different lifestyle.
But, I have to say that time management is really important nowadays. From students to workers, to plain housewives and to everyone, managing our time is really really important in many matters.

Even some of my local friends said that this school is so stressful:) But I am adapting to Singapore style gradually.Anyway, i really need to survive in this competitive country haha~
I used to ignore the importance of time management when I was still a middle school students because at that time i was one of the top students in school and felt quite relaxed when study. However I came here and turned to be a normal school girl, studying with my poor foundation of English language..it's the fist time i feel the importance of time management and I appreciate that I finally got it!

That's good when you can manage your time well. Yeah, you do right, wen you have many things to do/complete, you should know which one you will do first and try to arrange your time to solve it all.
I know studying abroad is hard since it is totally different with the study way in your country. But if you study hard and know to manage your time, all will be ok.
When i studied in Korea, i had to find and read papers/books myself and then found out which topic i should do, doing experiments, writing manuscript and then show it up to my advisor. It was hard!!!

Experiment, manuscript and advisor..are you doing science in Korea?Cool!
By the way, are you good at Korean language at the time when you need to read papers/books? If not, it will truely be very hard! Like doing literature homework here, sometimes I cannot understand what the whole passage is talking about though I've check all the new words in dictionary...

I hope you are able to get a schedule going that works really well for you. I agree that time management is very important. Especially when we have to do a balancing act of all of our responsibilities.

Asian cultures are really demanding as far as schooling is concern. After school, students usually go to "after school" school. Somehow you will be used to it. And you are right, time management and keeping track of your priorities will help you a lot.

Yes, I heard that the lifestyle in Singapore is always on turbo-boost, not a single second can be wasted. I'm glad to hear that you are starting to cope well and adapt to the business by constructing a strict timetable and schedule. It's good that you take matters seriously and not be bogged down by too many things to do, instead taking the initiative to ensure that you don't miss out in academic performance.
But I wonder, why do you have to join and participate in so many events in one go? Is it compulsory? And if you start having problems again with time management, I would recommend a book entitled, "The 7-minute Rule". If you have other books on time management in mind, go ahead and read them, too. Or you can simply ask your well-to-do friends how they are coping up. :) All in all, I wish you the best of luck in your studies and hope you have a blast in Singapore!

Um...CCA is compulsory as it is a very important part of a student's performance in school.Today I went for Chinese Drama Performance because I want to support my Chinese seniors. Next week's band concert, my friends are also performing.Next Friday, our choir are performing with handbell...Actually most of the activities are not compulsory, just that I like to experience new things:)
Thank you for your recommendation! I will try to find time to read the book:) I find that my friends can always focus on what they are doing. They manage to finish work on time and try their best in every single thing. I have already learnt a lot from them:D
