Office VS Home

It was 2010 that I had my last work in the office. I had worked as a radio announcer and then a webcast production assistant in two different companies - an AM commercial radio station and an FM-manila based radio station, respectively. Since both medium/companies run for 24 hours, I must go to the office as early as I can to start the early morning news program and run all technical equipment for the webcast production. From two years of working in two radio companies, I am always waking up as early as 4:00AM. Now, I opted to work at home because I had my first child - my daughter's almost three years old now. My husband and I agreed to have me working because we wanted to take pride and learn on our own in raising a child. So I turned to my friend who's doing online English tutorials and asked if I could join. Luckily, I passed the process and been here for almost three years, too. Proud to say, very happy with the work and compensation. I've been teaching for 10 hours now because the company introduced early morning lessons. I picked the 5:00AM lessons because I prefer to start the day early and have more time with family sun up. And so I have to wake up earlier than five to prepare my lessons for the day. With the time schedules with both working at home and office, it doesn't seem to be different after all? How about you, have you tried shifting from office to home-based or vice versa? What was your experiences? Thanks for sharing!

i don't think so. i am very busy every day,and proud of the busy work,it let me feel the full life.also i think home-based work have inconvenient factor, like can't commute comfortably with your colleague, can't take part in your work team...

You're right, flyme :) Team work or perhaps personal interactions would be the disadvantage of working at home. Since all the communications are done virtually (written or verbally), they cannot really feel the presence of the other person. There isn't also a direct supervision and rely much on email notices. Thanks for responding! :)

I haven't have a chance to work from home but it is something I wish to. I have been working for only a year, so I still like life in the office. I like to meet people and share experiences. If I have kids I would d the same as you but sometime it is depends on luck if you will be able to get a job that you can work from home or not.

Hi Vip! I guess that's beneficial for you to start with an office-based work. It trains your professionalism more because you need to interact with colleagues and have a boss that actually supervises your job. Just continue enjoying it and you'll never work in your life, well as they say. Thanks for responding! :)

Hi Jonas! I do agree it lessens the stress because you're in your comfort zone. Seeing the family and being able to be present are the perks that is helpful to make the family's bond better. Hope you'll find the job you'll like forever. Good luck Jonas! :)

The thing about working from home is that you have to schedule your time well and stick to it. You have to be able to go into some room and consider that your workspace, and have the nerve to tell family and friends that you're at work and will get back to them later. Even if you're working in the living room, you still need to attend to the work. Friends and family are much more distracting at home than at work, and if you're self-employed, you're only getting paid WHILE you work!
