meet silvano, an 80 yr old retired nurse who lives on trains. he lost his apartment because he couldn't pay the rent with his meager pension of 500plus euros. since handicapped persons like him do not need to pay train tickets, he decided to live on the train for the past eight months. would you? http://www.leggo.it/news/cronaca/silvano_pensionato_disabile_sfrattato_a_80_anni_ora_vive_in_viaggio_sui_treni/notizie/223773.shtml unforunately, i haven't been able to find a site that translated this news in english.

This not good and very sad, government should take care of them, it is not safe for them to roam around, and imagine live on a train, i can't bare to see grannies who live like this, government agencies should do something to this kind of situation.

he said he enjoys meeting different kinds of people. however, i know he would rather live in a normal apartment. this news was shown on italian tv this morning and some kindhearted families (mind you, they weren't the rich ones) offered him lodging. i don't know if he would take the offers.

this is heart-breaking. a pensioner should be able to live comfortably after working hard when s/he was still able to work. no one deserves to live in a train. the government must look into these cases to address the rising cost of rent, food prices, and other necessities. that is the job of the government.

with his 500plus euros of pension, he could live comfortably in another country. however, in italy this isn't possible. i've seen pensioners rummaging through the garbage bins looking for food.
