Feeling, is it a choice or an instinct?

I use to feel different daily. There are times that I feel happy, there are also times that I'm depressed. Whenever I'm happy, nothing can remove it and whenever I'm sad, it's really hard for me to bring that happy feeling back. While there are some factors that contributes to my feelings, there are also times that I just feel what I feel without any reason at all. Do you sometimes feel that way? I use to think that weathers can also contribute to what you feel.

its pretty normal to be feeling as if this is the case. we all have feelings of happiness, loneliness and we could be feeling one after the other at the very thin line and yes i have had my times of feeling these on my own and i know its pretty normal of course because i am exposed and vulnerable and i react towards what was given me.

Hi ! That tells you that you are human being ! Like you i also felt the way you do ! We call it mood swings and that is but normal . it is not a choice , feeling can never be a choice but an instinct. We feel such things due to some reasons , we can't plan our feelings it will just come in response to some stimuli . We don't feel bad for no reason at at all , we feel bad to to some reasons which sometimes others will never understand.

I think it's more than an insight. I mean, there are times when I try to control my feelings and for the life of me, I can't. feelings are just there - ready to crop when you least expected it and but sometimes you could also condition to suit the situation. I guess it's a middle ground.

I think that we all have - and there probably are - many definitions of feelings. For example we say I feel happy. Or you say: I feel something is going to happen. While some feelings are all emotional other feelings have to do with our minds. Emotional feelings can - allegedly - also be caused by chemical compounds in our body (adrenaline etc). I think what you are talking about are mainly feelings caused by mood. Such feelings are indeed really hard to influence. What most feelings - if not all - have in common is that they need some sort of ''input'', be it from inside or outside.

Yes, we all have days were it is difficult to feel happy. And yes the weather can defininely contribute to what you feel.( If there is not enough sunshine , people get depressed from a lack of vitamin D ) But we all can do something about this. Just find a quiet moment and ask: What if I feel better now what if I could smile what if I could make myself smile- it feels kind of good to smile etc.- Then all of a sudden there is a point where you have talked yourself into a better mood. Good luck next time you feel the blues coming on.-

What we feel is a reaction on every days activity. If there's a reason to cry, then we cry. If there's a reason to laugh then we will laugh. If we are sad, then we are sad.

Hi roselavon025, Human beings have emotions so at times we can feel sad, depresssed, frustrated or angry especially when things do not go the way we want them to. On the other hand we tend to feel elated, happy or relaxed when conditions or situations are better. I think it's normal for us to feel this way. However, I must also add that we can to a certain extent contol our mood. In other words we can choose to be happy or sad. Think about it and you'll be able to see and understand what I'm saying. Have a happy day.

It's both. Feelings can develop instantly or over a period of time, it all depends on time and situations. Everyone has to go through such instances, it's inevitable. Feelings are never of choice, they just happen. You can have choice in picking anything but, feelings happen themselves.
