browsing internet with vpn on cellphone

What is your experience browsing the internet on mobile phone via vpn? I'm mulling over whether I should try it and if it's worth it. I've successfully used vpn with a computer but with a cellphone haven't tried yet. Do you think vpn works on android phones?

I'm waiting for an lte phone but I can't afford yet. Price is a barrier.
