I was reading in the Yahoo News.com website that there are 9 ways
to protect your home...Have you tried any of them for the safety
of your home...
1. Secure Doors and windows..2. A loud Dog..3.Motion sensors lights
4. A home security System..5.Surveillance Cameras..6.Protection Warning Signs
7. A Trimmed and Tidy Yard ..8.The Appearance that Someone is Home
9. Helpful Neighbors
With as many uncanny people in the world these days we need to do any and
everything we can to protect our property....Perhaps I have listed
something that you did not think of....

Put up a lot of large signs with light on them saying:
Here Resides a Mental Patient with Insomnia Problems. A LOT of Firepower, weapons and bombs. Proceed at your own risk.
Make sure you put it in a couple of languages, to cover all the angles :P

Well we have our doors double locked when we sleep. There is no way anyone could ever get in our windows. They are different from regular windows that people have. We also have a dog. Our best security though is a 6 foot electric iron gate with spikes on top. No one in their right mind would try to jump over.

We always lock and secure the windows and doors. We have thorny bushes under the windows that are close to the ground. We have 4 dogs outside that really are great guard dogs. They don't let anyone or anything on the property without making a big noise. Someone is almost always at home. We also have a security system in place. We keep the yard maintained and lights are on a timer in case we are going to be gone.

Oh yes, I have tried some of them. I keep the yard up here at the 4 plex so everything os neat and tidy. My son has a Pit Bull which is really a sissy cat but not everyone knows that. He's not loud but sure gets peoples attention. We all look out for each other. I am a pretty light sleeper and here things and go out and check to see what is going on. I feel pretty secure here and a lot of it is due to my up bringing. Being taught to pay attention and always be alert no matter how tired you are sure helps.

Yes, just the sight of him would scare most people. He is a big baby but IO think if someone tried to hurt me, my son, or anyone that lives in our complex he would be in action. As long as I have been around him I have never seen him even look cross eyed at anyone. Now my Pitt that I just put to sleep was different. I was dating a guy and when he was around she would not leave my side. That was not like her at all.

As for having surveillance camera, I do not think it would really protect your home for it will just let you know your being robbed. And most of the time, you only knew when it happened already though its still good to have one.

i think most people forget the most basic thing which is making sure all doors and windows are locked. and of course taking the keys with them or having a secret spot for them.
people have started putting up cctv cameras here but burglars have learned to target the circuit breaker.
a good thorny plant that grows here is bougainvillea.

Those are good tips. Yes we have to protect our home from burglars. We should not be careless or too trusting. Burglars can do just about anything to take advantage of our carelessness, forgetfulness or absences.

I must confess that I leave the protection of my home to fate. I don`t lock doors as I am very much afraid of earthquakes. I only really close my house when I travel. When I look at my house with a burglar`s eyes, I don`t see what they would take. The most expensive things I have are the kind of things that robbers don`t understand.

all of thses equipments are useful,to some extent, they can really protect you and your family from being stealing and damaging, howerer, for my part , the most powerful weapon is the mind that used to solve problems. so if everyone in the world has a kind heart and always ready to make the world peaceful, the world or our home needn't protecting. BUT it is a long way to go.

hate the burglars what I'm interested to have is a huge dog that roams around the house along the yard and I was thinking to do some strange things to keep away the them from the house by placing some thorns before the doorway of place a signage. Beware of killer Dog and killer face of my sister. haha

These are no doubt very good ways for protecting our home from burglars. However, I think would only meet half of the safety measures stated in your post .
I came to know from an inspector, he advised us to hang some men's clothes or place men's sandals and shoes outside the main door especially for those ladies who are living alone in the house to deter the thieves .
Another way is look out for some markings outside your house or gates for those living in the landed property and destroy it. He said thieves will observe the house over a period of time and they will indicate some markings for their target before they attack .

I went through the very same thing as you until I finally broke down and bought an alarm system. It was not cheap, but considering what I had lost before that, I would have been money ahead, by far, to have bought it in the first place. Somehow the word gets out among the bad guys and they will leave your home alone. There are easier places to burgle.

I am familiar with these, but they do not all fit my life and property. I think the best thing that has always worked for us is that we have always had people on various shifts, and it looks like people are always coming and going. I also read a long time ago that if you have windows close to the ground you should plant under the window some type of stickery plant. I have Pyracantha under my windows. And barberry. They have inch long thorns. No one will crawl through them to get to a window.

These are all good ideas. An alarm system is always good but expensive. All of this is something to keep in mind. Especially with Summer on its way and people away from home more.

You are absolutely right, we have a sensor light outside ina number of places, animals even a recording (I remember a proff in college saying this), we lock all doors and windows, and signs such as beware of dogs.
I remember years ago we could leave all windows and doors open all day and night, even on cars, no issues. In recent years the population has double many from the city come up here and bring the crime with them. I wont leave the house after dark because of it.
