I am a senior school teacher in China, at the very beginning, I took it as my career all of my life, but things changed when I got my first wage and first treatment. In China a teacher just like me will get 1800RMB,that means about $300 per month without any extra money, however, as a ordinary teacher, he or she has to work five days a week(but for a high school teacher, he or she has to work all week, and they should have the night class from 19:00 to 22:00 every night). so that is the real condition of education of China, and the real life of every Chinese senior high school teachers. I don't know what it will be like in the U.S or other countries around the world, and I am eager to know the situations of educations and life of teachers in other countries , please my lotters , could you please share some with me? thanks a lot.

I checked your profile and learned that you come from Guizhou. I have no more there so much. However, I think that these years the teachers' treatments are better than before. At least here the teachers earn well and they also have summer and winter vacations. And as you know some parents will also give gifts to the teachers when some important holidays approach. Although I haven't given any gifts to the teachers yet, but I know some parents do it. My colleague's sister is a primary school teacher. And she has expensive travels to many places already.

It is true that teachers have more vacations like long winter and summer vacations, but as to the gifts given by the students' parents to their teachers, I have to state that parents usually give some gifts to their children's head-teachers not their regular teachers.

It so happens that we are in the same line of business. It is a hard job for teachers who have to work long hours a day, from early morning till late in the evening, especially for head-teachers who have to spend more time managing their students in case nothing bad should happen.
As to the above-mentioned salary, you know, China is a huge country ranging from area/province to area/province, salary may vary depending on where you are working. In some areas or provinces, the salary is relatively higher while in some other areas or provinces, it may be lower. It is also related to its degree of economic development and local living standard, which cannot be ignored.
I have a friend working in Guangdong, engaged in teaching as well. His monthly salary reaches as high as eight thousand or more in a junior high school. So we have to take into consideration of the differences in areas when teachers' salary is concerned. Anyway, thanks for the discussion.

When i was in school the school holidays are 2 weeks for each term and year end the school holidays are for about 2 months. Nowadays school holidays are only 1 week and year end is about 1 month and 1 week. If only other sectors did not arise the holidays the teachers are enjoying the school holidays would be maintain as before.
Even so teachers here are highly regarded as being the next important person to educate the children and the government have also did their part so the teachers can contribute better. Thank you for a being a teacher.

I am now a teacher here in Thailand my second year. I received a very low pay, on my first year... I accepted it anyway, this was my first year of teaching. and I was under an agency. so I was just receiving 15K Bhat which is equivalent to 450-500 USD. I don't complain because the job here is very easy. I can leave the school when my classes are over and no grades neither lesson plan. having very few students. all in all the total number of students I have was around 90 all grade levels... in one school and another school I have 110 students.. still not that many as compared to the number of students I had in the Philippines ( I taught there for 20+ years)
I have free house including the electricity and water and most of the time even dinner. (Lunch is free here for the teachers and students) I have free motorbike and bicycle and sometimes free ride from fellow teachers. hehehe.
I am fortunate that they liked my teaching and most schools are wanting to have me. so I have extra teaching also (goes to my pocket directly every weekends Sundays and Saturdays.
Anyway, this year I will be getting (I hope not sure yet until i have them in my pocket) 20K bhat because I am no longer under the agency. however I have to hop for 5 schools I don't know how it is going to be yet. until I am actually on the field and doing my job
So easy as a teacher...

As a student in China, I really respect your job.I think most of the teachers in our country havent good welfare as you said, but some in good school or big cities have engough money and spare time to relax themselves just like my senior school teachers.

I thought teachers in the Philippines are very unlucky. But you proved it otherwise. At least in here, they just teach five days a week. And they don't have night shifts as you describe. Though, entry level teachers are paid less in here.

Hi ! Teaching is the modest profession of all ! So Sad to hear the situation of teachers in China but so very good that you brought this topic because in our concept we all know that China is a very progressive country , therefore all workers are secured in terms of renumeration especially the teaching profession but only to find out now that teachers there are not compensated well. How come this all happened ? In our country , we maybe a poor country but i am proud to say that teachers are well compensated here plus all other benefits and a summer vacation. Our public school teachers are having big salary plus all the other benefits and they are expected to tender 10 hours of work only that is from Monday to Friday , 7;00 am to 4 :00pm. Teachers her are given importance by our country though some are not contented so keep on complaining ..but overall our teachers are happy .

Hello Conquer! Nice to see you on my lot!You gave a valuable information about teachers life in china but as well as i know most of the countries pays less to teachers. If we talk about here in india then pay scale of teachers is not good here as well. In public school teacher works here for 6days in a week but teacher got a lot of vacations here in India because we Celebrate a lot of festivals and schools remain close on each festival and they got a vacation for around two months in summer, if we talk about government schools then teachers are very happy here because they do not have any work pressure and need to work only 4 - 5 hours a day and salary is little bit good so in government school teachers life is well here but in private school the condition is just like as in your country..

my mother was an elementary school teacher for 33 years in the philippines. although i'm not sure about the current wages there, i think it must be around the figure that you mentioned. the public school teachers work five days a week. they have two months paid summer vacations. upon retirement, they get sum equal to a certain percentage of their basic salary multiplied by their number of years in service. if they opt not to receive monthly pensions, the percentage is higher. if they want to get monthly pensions, the sum the get upon retirement is less. aside from the two month paid vacation which is only for public school teachers, these benefits are enjoyed by all regular government employees in the philippines.
although there is an established official working hours for the teachers, they work beyond these hours. i remember my mom used to make lesson plans in the evening. they would go to check on the classroom a week before the school year started. all these OT were never paid.
