I have come across many people in my life who have always been tensed about their English skills and have felt that they r losers who r not able to master the basic English part also.
I mean i do not see a point of considering oneself as a loser for such a small matter. No doubt English knowledge is very vital for everyone but then there r numerous ways by which one can speak, write and express easily in English. Even i was not very sound in English during my childhood days but then i never gave up nor i took any help from others, i took it as a challenge and tried to give my best as much as possible. Many of my college and school friends call me dictionary and many others thing, but the reality is that even now i am trying to explore more in English as it is like an ocean that wont end. So i have always advised my friends who battle with English is that nothing is easy or difficult, it is our thinking that makes it so. Nothing is impossible, so they if they can speak their local language then why can't English.
What r your thoughts about this? Have u ever come across any person who has been battling to master English? How did u develop your English skills? Any words of advise for the people who r facing this issue? Please do share your thoughts!

I have tremendous admiration for all those who try to learn English as a second language. Many Americans can't speak another language and they should never criticize anyone who is trying to learn another language.
I think Enlish is hard..I would not want to have to learn it as a second language..so to all who try..I say good for you!! Congratulations you have the will and discipline to learn a second language and ignore anyone who criticizes you!!!
I LOVE this sayng....it's sooo true
"nothing is easy or difficult, it is our thinking that makes it so".

Yes u are absolutely right, nothing is easy or difficult, it is only our thinking that makes it so, hence even i would like to advise u not to feel that English is hard to speak as with few efforts u can also speak English fluently like others. I am sure u can do it easily, just go for it.

My native tongue is Fiilipino. But growing up, both my mom and dad would occassionally be speaking with me and my siblings in English. So that was one reason why speaking and understanding English was not that hard. Although I was really not that conscious before. But there was this one incident in High School wherein our English teacher was a terror, meaning, she is really strict in her class. She barely stand 5 foot tall but the students are afraid of her. And I was one of them. But that fear pushed me to do better in class coz I do not want to be put to shame in class. She can be a little sarcastic sometimes.
On Valentine's Day that year, she told us to give a letter to any person in class whom we rarely speak with or just want to be close to. I could not choose any of my classmates, but I was brave enough to send her a letter and pour my heart on the letter that I sent her. I think she was moved and surprised coz there was no one else who gave her a letter. From that day on, I have just listened to her more intently and have loved the English Language more than ever. I do admit committing a mistake or two with the way I write or speak. Well, it may be brought about by thinking too fast or maybe not thinking straight at all!

@subhojit10 Yeah! I think she was touched with my letter. She actually sent a letter back and a bar of chocolates! I didn't expect her to reply. And I was deeply touched with what she has told me, too. From that day on, I really made better grades. I was inspired by her.

Wow it was lovely to read both your experiences and i believe both the incidents had a profound effect on you that has helped you improve your English.
Yeah most of the times whenever a teacher is strict, the students are bound to study well out of fear otherwise they would get offended in front of others in the class. Besides i am sure the letter that u wrote to your teacher must have touched her heart.

I give a lot of credit to anyone who even tries to learn English. English is the only language I know and it's probably one of the hardest to learn. People shouldn't feel bad that their english isn't perfect....nobody's is! Do the best you can and that's all that can be expected of you.

yes u are absolutely right, learning English is in itself a challenge so leave aside mastering it. So even i feel that people should not feel bad if they r not much sound in English as no body is perfect in English as well. Nowadays we r getting ample opportunities around us and hence we should take advantage of those opportunities.

Hi subhojit10! I've encountered plenty of people who are not confident to speak English. They get intimidated. My sister also felt that way before but I encouraged her to try speaking the language more often so that she can improve it. She's now working in a call center and doing well. Hehe.
Even those salesladies inside a mall store are running away if they see a foreigner that will inquire about some products. They rely so much on their supervisors to do the talking. Speaking other language is a matter of choice and it will take time. I don't speak Chinese because I don't want to. My relatives are speaking that language very well. I prefer speaking English, Spanish, French and other similar language. I developed my English speaking skills when I was working in the airport and abroad. Although I haven't practiced speaking that language since I went back on my country other than through writing online. I just watch English movies and listen to English songs and try to repeat those words I hear. I am aware I need to improve my English again. It's an everyday learning process.

That's great to hear about your personal efforts that u took diligently to improve your English, i think everyone should take a note of the efforts u have done in the past regarding this.
well i am glad to hear about your sister and i hope she will develop good English in the future. Yeah even i have seen how sales people run away upon seeing foreign customers otherwise they wont be able to interact with them.

Well, nice to read your statement about English language, It is really a problem for those who are not from English background, whose tongue language is not English, but as we all know that it is very needy language for Everybody, If we want to proceed in any government or private job and want to achieve success then it is very necessary to achieve a good command on English. Some people take it very seriously and they think that they never understand or speak English because they do not have confidence but some take it very easily.
It is good if we take this language so easily and try to speak and learn it. As it is a language so it is vast but it is not difficult to learn it if we have confidence, It is so easy, even i am not a master in English but i always have a passion to learn this language and i always try to be best in this language. We can search the meaning of words from dictionary but if we want to be perfect in this language then always try to speak in English with everybody and watch English channel on TV Can be a big help, My Lot is also a good place to learn English as we can find some new words everyday here..

Absolutely right my dear, we all r not perfect in English but with our small efforts we can learn at least the basic and then with our daily conversations we can carry forward after all it is a learning process. In fact as u have mentioned, it has become important for us to know English as it would help us a lot to sustain whenever we are interacting with our clients.

English is not very hard.
i am not yet a professional and I have yet to learn many things. But, I can talk in english with anyone if necessary.
Some days back, someone called me from an online shopping company where I placed an order and started talking in English. At first I felt nervous. But I talked good with him and it was fine

Yes of course English is not a hard language as it is considered by many. Yeah i am glad to hear that even though you were nervous while interacting over the phone but then u got carried away with the talk and u felt confident after that. I think each one of us should have that kind of spirit that would help us to scale the challenges in life.

In speaking englisng language, people may differ in the diction and intonation, what is important , it can be understood. Before, i was so particular in speaking English and how it is being delivered, but as I started traveling from one country to another, I made to understand that it's not necessarily to speak it it fluently , it doesn't matter whether you are fluent or not as long as you can speak a bit even it is broken one.

I am teaching different English subjects in a university in the tertiary level and my students find English so hard to deal, and I find it hard too, to change their lives to like and embrace English as important to their lives as students and to their future career.
