Poems and feedback (on the internet)

Do you post your poems online? Did you get feedback from other people? Was it useful? Or did you get very few comments or no comments at all? Do you give other users feedback when they post their own poems? I have posted some of my poems on a local site from my country. I don't share my poems on international sites like Mylot because my poems are written in my local language. There is a very popular discussion forum in my country and they have a category called "Poems". Many people post their poems there, but very few people comment on the poems. I am happy if I get one or two comments because many of the poems don't get any comments at all. I try to comment on the other poems as much as I can. Some time ago I was able to help someone who had a problem with the rhythm of his poem and I also got some useful comments from other users when I posted my own poems.

I agree with both of you. I think that poems are less popular than articles, and there are many people who don't read poems at all. I have written poems for many years, and I also like to read other people's poems. but most of my friends would never write or read poems. One of the large discussion forums in my country has a category called poetry and people regularly post new poems there, but very few people comment on the poems and I guess that many of the members on that site prefer to spend their time on other types of discussions.

Yes. Poems, it seems, are not as popular as poets would like them to be. They are a cute addition to a blog or a site, but it's not realistic to expect increased traffic because your blog is full of poetry. I think the problem with poetry is that it's not the ideal type of content for SEO.

I did submit my poems on our school publication when I was still in High school and the result was that I get insulted by editor in chief who was the mother of my rival in the school quiz challenge. I think her comments on me are not useful for it was too personal.

I am sorry to hear about your bad experience. I think that it was childish of her to insult you with personal comments, and I hope that the comments that you have received after that time have been more objective and constructive. I also wrote poems when I was at high schools, but we had no school publication so I wasn't able to share my poems there. After that time I have shared some of my poems on the internet and I think that is nice way to get feedback. Do you also share your poems on the internet?

I created my page on Facebook "Love, Poems and Promises" and I post my poems in there. One of my poems shows 1,432 people saw this post I can't believe one of my poem did attract that number of readers in just 3 days :)

A long, long time ago I posted in a site about poetry. And it was actually a vanity press so you will get offers to publish your poem. Of course, as vanity presses go, you will be paying for the cost of getting your poems published in a coffee table book format. Actually, I've only received one comment about my poetry in my entire life. And that was when I posted it in my blog. It was an unexpected compliment. Just one. Anyway, I suppose if you are in a poetry site with an active forum, you can get a lot of comments. It's like myLot for poems.

Yes, I guess that there are poetry sites with active forums where you can get lots of comments. On the site that I used in the past was a general forum with a poetry category. The poems received quite a lot of views, but few people wrote a comment. Some poems didn't receive any comments at all, and I think that most be frustrating to get no feedback at all if that was your goal when you posted your poem. Maybe it would be better to post poetry on a poetry site insted of a general forum. I haven't posted my poetry online for a while, but maybe I will do it again if I write some new poems.

I have posted quite a few on some international sites and I am happy for the responses that I received. I wish i could post more in the future. Poetry is also the soul of man where he pour out emotions which cannot be spoken differently. Sometimes we hide the truth through the poems that we make and few people care to understand them.

I do post some of my poems online esp. on this website, www.thestarlitecafe.com. The admin., members and staff there are very supportive, warm-hearted, inspiring and they are just darlings. They have tons of unique talents and they give positive and constructive criticisms or feedback. You can also make your own challenges or join healthy competitions against other fellow poets. This way, you and your poems can get more exposure. This site also allows you to choose or upload photos, backgrounds, videos and songs to accompany your pieces. If you want you can also try other sites such as Allpoetry, Writing.com or Poetry.com. Be careful with poetry.com though, it's a scam. Although you can get instant responses from site members-given the fact that you're obliged to return the favor of feedbacking two other works of fellow random poets before yours gets to be uploaded. This site (also associated with world poetry movement)sends you mail telling you to pay a copy of your book with your poem in it.Then they invite you to join a convention-at your expense- so that they may give you an award as one of the poets of the year which will cost you several hundred dollars.Nothing will happen except they'll give you a cheesy trophy or plaque. And so unless you only need feedback, be warned and ignore. I can totally relate with you. I know how it feels to get responses from others because these poems are not only our treasures but they're us or a part of us at least.Actually, I was eager to respond to your thread as soon as I read about it. We are only a few who still consider this as a hobby after all. At times I even consider compiling and venturing into self-publishing either by chapbook, book or eBook. Sad to say, I'm still halfway through and I haven't even gone with the details yet. Anyway, keep writing. Keep doing what you love to do best and the rest will follow. More power, smiles and blessings!
