Fossils are the hardened remains of animals and plants that lived a very long time ago. It can be a shell, a bone, a tooth, a leaf, a skeleton, or even sometimes an entire animal.Accordingly most fossils have been found in areas that were once in or near the sea.
In order to trace the history, fossils were at hand for doing this job. Without this discoveries we dont know the organisms lived long time ago and so with the way of living of the people of those times. We can hardly understood about the past lifestyle of those prehistoric men . Even how they have improved from simple way until they discovered fire which made a great help for them.

Hello jonnagirl. You are right that fossils tell us about their age and their existance is of great value to us modern scientists to make some research on their past activities. In fact, they are compared to living fossils that help work out a lot of myths in the past. Thanks for the discussion.
