I watched this news show here in Mexico last night.
Was about all these ladies who sit at border crossing gates.
They have their dirty cloths and baby in the arms.
They sit there waiting for americans to walk buy and toss coins and dollars into the cups.
The show was taped at tijuana- san diego.
And at the Juarez- el paso texas crossing.
Now first I have no problem with tossing a few coins to a poor mom, who Im sure needs the money.
Or does she?
The news reporters where there because several people had reported to them.. that the babies were not real at all.
But dolls !!!
Yes dolls!!!
And what do you know.
The news people and police checked 5 at one place and 7 at the other. And 9 of the 12 were dolls!!!
I cant believe, people would do that to us...
We have all been fooled by these things in the past Im sure of it.

I remember something we saw on the internet about people who walk around or hobble around all crouched over and ask for money in the big cities here in America and when their day is done they change their clothes, hop into expensive cars, and go to their expensive houses out of the city.
Then they wonder why people don't want to help out the poor because there are so many people asking for handouts that don't need it at all.

It is sad I wonder where people's minds are that they have to stoop to these kinds of things.

Desperate times call for desperate measures it seems, but it obviously works! I wonder now this has come to light and people are more aware of what is happening, as to whether people will still give cash out to them? And what about the ladies who genuinely do have babies? Will they be tarred with the same brush? It also makes you wonder if they are scamming, whether they really are destitute.

It would take alot. She could live ok if she made 15.00-20.00 per day at it.
That would be over min. wage here in mexico.

I was a Navy wife and lived down by the Tijuana border crossing. We made one or two trips across. I never really had money to give. My mom was visiting once and spotted the fake baby doll right away. That was forty years ago. I am sure over the years thousands of people have been fooled by these women crying out "la leche"

Well, this was not at the border, I guess I should have been more clear. Any place we were shopping or standing in line and at the parking area they would approach us. They would also offer to "sell" us a pack of gum for a really high price for milk for the baby. My mom took one look and said, "that is just a doll". They would be wrapped in carriers or slings and just the feet would show.

That is terrible. There are many people getting by with things like that. I watched a guy one day standing at the light by the off ramp of the interstate. He had a sign saying he was homeless. People would give him money and stuff. Later I went by there again and this guy was getting into a real nicer, newer model truck. Guess who was probably paying for that truck

Shocking as it may seem and even disgusting but begging is already becoming a profession. In some cases, I do not know if you are aware there are syndicates for these professional beggars and to some extent have known to resort to brutal amputation of limbs to "make real" their plight. I hate it when I learn of certain syndicates using these brutalities on abandoned children or own children even.
The authorities must step in and address these problems especially those genuine cases. Or else, the poor will be exploited and the image of the country will be tarnished. The latter is important to countries that promote tourism and such image will discourage tourists from visiting.

I began to see this por lady holding two old suitcases and she had about four or ficve reaggedy children around her. She would be weeping and wailing and would tell everyone that her house had burnt down. I gave her some money but when I checked with my son all she had to do was to go to a particular government agency to get emergency help for her and the children.
So what did this old fool do?
I drove up and around the town until I found her in a different location still weeping and wailing and she had a crowd of people around her. So I went up and told her where to go to get emergency help and the lady was so mad at me. Evidently this was her scam and I had messed in her pitch

This was the first time I heard of this strategy. Although there are other type that I personally encounter, like the person will go to another place and is need of money for the fare. All I can say, they will have to pay for the price. There will always be a a harvest time.
Have a great day!

We went to tijuana and my mother-in-law gave money to one kid and before we could move her along there was a whole line of children wanting money. We finally had to drag her away.

These people are "professional scammers" . Years ago I used to pity these people and would give them alms whenever I met them. However, I no longer doing it now as most of them are not genuine and I would prefer to give to a proper organization or a church that I know of .

I'm not surprised. Here in the states we have hundreds, if not thousands, of people standing on street corners begging. They look real--their clothes are tattered, they are dirty and unkempt, their signs say they are starving and people donate to them as they stop at traffic lights or pass by on foot. But many of these people live better than those who give them money. One man in Phoenix, Arizona, had a lovely house with a swimming pool, a couple of nice cars and a great standard of living overall. He mad his living begging as a homeless veteran!
I never give to those people because I'm heavily taxed and part of those taxes are for programs to help homeless, starving people. I give money to legitimate charities but never individuals.
But it goes to show how basically good people are that they throw coins and bills into those cups. Their hearts can be touched and softened by the sight of a mother in need. They have more humanity and decency that the person sitting there with a fake child asking for charity.

I agree, I hate to give to one and not to another so i choose not to give. i did buy a family a bus ticket here last year. But they earned it. They spent lots of money all year here in my cafe. So I didnt lose anything. Have a great day there.
