Before I could bring Turbo home I had to take my cats to the vet to update their shots.
So we're at the vet, and the 2 cat carriers are sitting on the floor, when a woman walks in with her full grown rottweiler. What a scary looking breed of dog that is! They're so big!
Well this woman sits around the corner from me and my cats, and her dog, on a retractable leash, is exploring around her. She comes over and starts sniffing around the cat carriers.
The woman is telling the dog, whose name is Bella, "no" but Bella isn't listening. And I really didn't mind as my cats were going to be introduced to their new dog later in the day so I wanted to see how they'd react. It was a safe environment, the cats were in carriers, nobody could be hurt.
So, Bella puts her nose right up to Twilight's carrier, and Twilight let out a major hiss!
This big giant scary dog totally freaked out at the cat's hiss! She jumped up about a mile high, and ended up falling over on her back, and then running away to cower behind her mommy!
I apologized to the lady about my cat scaring her dog.. but we were both chuckling over it!
Have you ever seen a big, scary dog act afraid of a smaller animal?

I probably wouldn't have apologized. It was the dog owner's fault anyway.
I've heard of scaredy dogs before, but none of mine really ever were.

I was laughing while I said it.
In hindsight I probably should have been angry with her for letting her dog near my cats.. but at the time I was interested in how they'd react.

I have a friend that had a big dog and a little tiny dog....the little tiny dog ruled the roost and the bigger one was scared of it. When the little one got mad well the bigger one would go hide in her bedroom....the little one could chase it away just by nipping at it's legs....what a hoot!

Those hisses are pretty powerful language and I have seen this a lot. I do not know what it translates to, but whatever it is, it seems that big dogs often take it seriously

Probably something like "If you get any closer I will scratch your eyes out!"

LOL oh that is too funny. I was worried about your cats there for a second. I bet everone in the waiting area got a good laugh at the huge dog being scared by a cat!!!

The dog could not have hurt them as they were in the carrier and the woman did have a good grip on the dog.. she was just letting the dog sniff!
Everyone in the waiting room did get a laugh, but they also sort of felt bad for the dog because it had fallen down. It was sort of an "aww, poor baby" moment!

Oh ys, but it was a parrot. My sister had three huge labradors and they were terrorised by her African Gray parrot who was called Gonzo. Gpnzo would sometimes fly down and perchnnon the nose of one of the dogs and then begin to bark like them. It really freaked them out

Yes, I did see two huge bullmastiffs got scared and ran to avoid much smaller local street dogs. These huge dogs are mine actually. They are usually allowed to pee and poo at our backyard/garden. One time we had let them out and that was when they faced smaller street dogs. They ran..it's a good thing that our gate was left open so they were able to continue running inside the house.

Of course poor Bella got scared of the cat! She didn't expect the cat's reaction, so it was a total surprise to her. Gentle giants like Bella can get scared, too, it is nothing unusual in this. Would you preferred her to bite the carriers, to tear them up and to grab Twilight? I'm sure you wouldn't. You were lucky Bella was a gentle dog.
