I don't like it when I have friends at the gym..

Honestly, I'd rather not know anyone at the gym where I work out. This is because there are friends of yours who are not really that serious with their workout. They are there only for the sake of being there. And boy, do they waste a lot of time talking and talking. I workout fast and without interruptions. Even when I seem to notice strange things or sounds, but I don't stop and waste time. When you have a friend at the gym he or she will indulge you in conversation and even when you want to move to another machine you can't because it is rude to just leave her like that. Yesterday, someone who I know and who knows me signed up in the gym where I exercise and guess what? I wasted half of my time listening to her stories. Oh boy. I hope I don't encounter her again.

That is the main reason why I wear headphones! It stops people from talking to you and interrupting your session. Have you never thought of taking your ipod or music player with you? It will also block out those unwanted sounds that you hear at the gym, and it stops people from talking to you! Works a treat! I have never had any problem at all with people. I don't have to say a single word, I go in, do my 90 minute work out, come out, and not one person has spoken to me, it's bliss!

No, I haven't tried that Wolfie. I don't have an ipod in the first place that is why I hear all sorts of crazy sounds there. LOL

Cellphone can also act as a music player. If somebody tries to talk to you, just smile at them without saying a word and continue doing your workout. That what I do when someone interupts me, I smile at them at least they wont get too offended.

I worked out a gym one time, and after that the gym closed, I have never work out at a gym, with family or friends, and I don't think I ever will, because like you said they like to do a lot of talking, about a lot of nothing, and you need to focus on your workout, not on them talking to you.

Ha ha... it is a little bit of procrastination. Yeah. It is not only that. Even when you are in school. If you want to study more and more, there are some of our classmates and friends would indulge us to talk to them and if you don't listen to them, well, they'll think that your rude. I have cousin at home who talk too much and honestly speaking, I can't concentrate for what I am doing online. I know that kind of feeling.

It happens a lot, not only in the gym. Too bad, a lot of time goes to waste.

I agree 100%. I am a serious and focused person. I work quietly and in full concentration. I do not want people to bother me while I am working or watching TV. Besides, I save energy doing this since I get tired easily. It is the same with work-out. One hour is one hour. I need to sweat, count my time, focus on y speed and save my breathe. I do not want to be bothered.

I don't work out and haven't before, but I am assuming that people go to the fitness center or gym to train or lose weight/stay in shape. Maybe next time this happens, politely tell her you are running on a tight schedule and not being rude, but you are there to train and not to chit chat. I am sure you can think of a polite way to express this, be apologetic and not offend your gossipy friend next time you encounter her during your personal fitness regimen.

You can either try to explain to them that you are at the gym to work out (you can phrase it in your own way), or if they talk don't respond. Then they would get the picture that you dont like to talk while working out. But personally I think you should just be upfront and tell them that you are at the gym to workout, and maybe you can even add that after the gym you guys can hang out and have a chat somewhere. So that way if your friend has something to say it can be after the gym and you will be left in peace to concentrate on your exercise.

I should muster the courage to tell her that Anji.
