Were you ever robbed during train (any) journey?

Hi lotters & friends, Last week my friend and her twin sons (aged 17 yrs) boarded the train at 2.30 a.m. to attend a wedding of her relative in Maharashtra. She packed everything including her gold jewelries, dresses for wedding as well as casual and even put some cash into the big travel case. Probably they must have slept soon after getting into the train. When she woke up around 5 am, she found her suitcase missing. It is common in our country as we often hear such incidents. I think it is better we avoid putting everything in one bag as here her sons could have handled an extra luggage for themselves/ for their stuffs. Has it ever happened to you? What all precautions you take if you are carrying valuables? Will you stay awake all thru the night? Happy sharing…

In the past my husband was robbed in the train when he travelled around in Europe on his own. When we planned our interrail trip in Europe he was worried that the same thing would happen again and we decided we wouldn't sleep at the same time. We travelled together so one of us was able to sleep while the other person stayed awake and kept an eye on the bags. That method worked very well and we were never robbed during the month that we travelled around in different European countries. If I travel alone I would stay awake all night, but it is easier when two or more people travel together.

That reminds me off when a went interrailing with a friend. We slept most of the time, we'd get bed in couchettes and usually shared with fellow interrailers. We had a great time and took the ferry back from England to Sweden (I don't think it goes there anymore). When we came to Sweden we initially had seats all the way up through Sweden, but we were so tired we decided we'd better get beds. Ended up in a mixed sleeping compartment with two Swedish men. I immidiatly fell asleep and slept nearly all the twelve hours up through Sweden. My friend stayed awak all night, hugging her booze. She had bought both hers and mine tax-free quota and was afraid the Swedes would steel her booze. By then nobody would have wanted to steal our stinking luggage, but the booze! She was nackered when we came home, whereas I was quite rested and happy.

Hi yes, it is the better idea to be waken either of us. We also do that and i ask him to sleep late so that by the time he sleeps i can somehow get some sleep, though i am not comfortable much in sleeping in the train. but during long distances we can't help.. Hi torunn-- that's really intersting story. Thanks a lot for sharing.

thanks God that I did not been robbed anytime but yes I have experience when two guys wanted to rob my bag.. I just scream that terribly that they run away... but while of traveling , it is good to keep money not only in one bag... it is good to keep them under dress with small bags hidden... or around the belt..

HI, Its great that you screamed them away..lol. Screaming really works as four years back me & my daughter screamed in full volume when a chain snatcher put his hand around my neck but he didn't have any luck as i was holding the mangalsutra very tightly. Since that was on the train, he jumped down and nobody knows where he vanished... I also don't prefer to carry too much of money (especially today we have atm facilities everywhere). Thanks for sharing..

I ensure I do not take my jewellery when I travel out of the state. Nowadays we get good designs of imitation jewellery and I prefer using them as it is safe.

Viju beti Last year my daughter was in Hyderabad with her hubby, son and daughter in my son's home, they boarded the train in Hyderabad, it was AC 2 tier. My daughter came down to platform with daughter and son to by magazine; son in law went to buy biscuits; when they went back all luggage were gone. Luckily she had kept cash 20,000 in side her 'saya'.

Hi, One of my freinds is like that, he always carry two wallets and put the important papers in some other pockets where the wallets are not kept. My husband once lost all the atm card and photo id when he lost his wallet at market... though on that day he didn't have much money in it...lol
