Reminiscing about Mouseketeers

A baby boomer, I was around the same age as the Meeseketeers, Karen and Cubby, when the Mickey Mouse Club began its phenomenal run on television in October 1955. To me, the older Mouseketeers were like "big kids". In one Mouse Club episode, I recall a guy Mouseketeer taking Cheryl on a date . . . Dating ... ? That was "big kid" stuff, too much for me to handle at that time.
Fast-forward a half-century plus . . .
I don't keep up with current events the way I used to. After I learned of the recent passing of Annette, I roamed the Internet and found out about the passing of Cheryl some years earlier. Cheryl and Annette were two of my "fab four": my four favorite girl Mouseketeers. My other two favorites are Sharon and Doreen (with or without her clothes on, as in Gallery magazine).
Sadly, Cheryl and Annette lost their battles with devastating diseases--with Cheryl, it was cancer; with Annette, multiple sclerosis. They will continue to be appreciated for their contributions to entertainment and their positive impact on the lives of their fans.
RIP Cheryl and Annette

I'm also a baby boomer and grew up watching the Micky Mouse Club! I was very sad to hear about Annette. I loved her beach blanket movies with Frankie Avalon (another one of my favorites and I drooled over hime). I also remember hearing about Cheryl. The sad part is that kids today don't have something as wholesome and fun as Mickey Mouse.

It was sad when each lady passed away, as they were so great on the show. Sadly it ran only a few years and then ran in reruns a long time. Annette did so much to help bring awareness to a disease I knew nothing about until she announced her news. Her husband did so much to help her in her last years.
I will go look up Sharon and Doreen didn't follow their lives after the show. I really enjoyed watching Annette in movies after the television show and enjoyed listening to her sing.
