Rearranging my living room

I think I won a chair last week at the auction, and if I did, I need to find room in my living room. My boyfriend agreed to sell the big screen TV since it uses a lot of electricity and it takes up a lot of real estate in here. A couple of months ago, we brought an extra carpet I bought long ago to use in trade shows, and put it down over the existing carpet, but it was crooked. I got fed up and finally straightened out, but some of these pieces are heavy, so I'm taking a short break to reply to posts. It might take me all day, but I'm pleased so far, and I only have to move one bin to storage. I am doing a lot of moving-the rocking chair is no longer in front of the window, but is now in the corner. I'll put the end table next, and the new chair closer to the door, on the other side of the table. The coffee table(which I feel is too much here) goes in the middle of the carpet. It's too crowded, but I can't move anything outside without his help.

Good for you for getting rid of the big screen T.V.!!! I bought a flat screen a few months ago and LOVE it and especially love the fact that it is easier on electricity. I still have four of the older televisions that I plan to eliminate one at a time as soon as I can. I can't rearrange furniture in my family room. I have a mini Dachshund that is almost totally blind. If I move furniture he would be totally lost. Besides the fact that I have my jewelry making supplies in the family room and it would be a real pain in the rump to deal with moving them around. I did rearrange the furniture in what used to be my living room, it's now the work room and has all my sewing supplies in it. I bought a $2600 sewing cabinet for $75 a few months ago and since I already have one I needed to do the rearranging to allow me to keep both of them. I now have a work room that is much easier to work in. The only thing left to do is to get a flat screen television for that room too. Are you doing anything to keep the carpet that you have put down from "creeping"? Carpet on carpet does move around as you walk on it or the furniture moves on it. It can drive you nuts, and if you don't watch your step you can trip on it. Please be careful!!! What kind of trade shows did you do? I did them with my teddy bears...and ended up selling 6 to the Tokyo Teddy Bear Museum. When my Mom passed away I didn't have the desire to continue making teddy bears, although now I am getting back to doing teddy bears and trying to find shows to sell my bears at.

One corner of carpet is anchored by a rocking chair right now; so far, it doesn't appear to be a problem, except when I'm vacuuming it! I used to sell romance and relaxation products at in-home parties. I only did one trade show before I moved; that totally disrupted my business. And once I moved to another state, I ended up closing it for good. I wish we had more room here; I'd love to start doing some mixed media pieces. I haven't really done any artwork in a long time, but I find it very calming. You're so lucky to have enough room to sew!

My Mom was great when I started making the teddy bears as a business. The room that is my family room was where I was able to set up my shop. It is a twelve by eighteen foot room with a wood burning stove. It was a great work area. Mom took over the living room for her quilts. Needless to say you couldn't go anywhere in the house without coming in contact with some kind of fabric! I remember one night I heard a thump, Thump, THUMP coming from my Mom's room and I raced there to check out what was going on. My Mom was bent over with a slipper in her hand beating a small black object like crazy. I asked her what it was she was trying to kill and she answered that it was some sort of HUGE bug. (the thing she was beating was about a half inch wide by an inch long) I got a closer look at the black object and started laughing like crazy! It was a piece of acrylic fur!!! Mom didn't see the humor in the fact. I collected the "bug" and went back to bed, it was one of the few things that I could NEVER kid her about. After Mom passed away I decided that the livingroom would make a better sewing room because it had better lighting and was larger and also had better cooling during the summer. I have a small rocking chair that I am using right now, but I am seriously considering getting a recliner instead. With the arthritis I have in both knees a recliner would be so much more comfortable to sit in while I do the finishing work on my bears. I am so grateful each and every day for the fact that my Mom left me the house. With what I have coming in on disability I would be hard pressed to afford to rent a home in town. Now, if you would like to share my work room....I have room..... but I live out in the boonies (thirty miles from the nearest town) but the place I live at is absolutely beautiful! I am sure you would love working in my sewing/work room. When my Mom passed away I inherited the house and moved my work room into the p

@Loverbear We've actually moved since I posted this discussion. The TV was given away, since no one wanted to purchase it, and we dealt with using a smaller one for a year. That one has also since been donated-we have two flat screens. The rug had to be thrown out-silly dog peed right in the middle of it, and since it was white shag, it was ruined. Really wish he'd learn to tell us he needs to go out! But it'd be too small for this room-our new living room is quite large, and the dining room even larger! But there is a sculptured rug here, and I already trip on that.... We've moved into a home, and there are two bedrooms-one is at the front, and since it's 1) smaller and 2) we couldn't fit our bed in there, it is now my husband's 'train room'-all of his hobbies go there. The larger bedroom, where we are, is configured strangely-only a few electrical outlets, and only two walls that were large enough to put our bed against, but the weirdest part-to access the front room, you have to walk through our bedroom! There is a small area outside of our bathroom that I suspect was supposed to be a dressing room, and that's where I run my eBay business from. We'd love to live in the country, but my husband wants us to live in the Poconos, to be closer to his doctors. Hopefully we can move before the interest rates go sky high, and we're forever shut out of owning a home...
