Any way thanks for the comment, If u r working for an IT company you should be aware.
As we can say Router is device in the internet which connects two different networks, either two companies or you local lan to the www. Router acts as a gateway between our office lan and the external world, even if you have a DSL connection, the device given by the ISP is a small router, which acts as device which connects your PC to the external internal.
But in the case of router the security level is very, it can only show u how to route to the external network.
The structure is as follows
Your PC-Local Lan-Firewall-Router-Your ISP-Internet.
(Setting in my office, this sequence may vary according
to different network structures and protocol )
Firewall acts as a security wall between the router and your lan or your pc. Some of the salient features of any firewall is
- Enable to establishes a VPN tunnel between networks.
(VPN-Virtual Private Network ).
- Has Virus control features, which blocks the virus at
the gateway level i.e. before entering your PC or local
LAN.
- Firewall has SPAM prevention controls, which can to some
extent block all the spam mails not to enter into a
corporate networ.
- Firewall has additional features like Content block,
block unrated sites, block download, block chat etc.
These features are mainly used in all the corporate networks to improve the employee productivity and save their networks from virus threats.
But mainly firewalls are used in corporate networks where they have more the 15-20 pcs to 1000+ pcs.
Hope u can understand very well.

Yeh, thanks for the post. Iam using hardware firewall in my office since 2002, as of now there is no DOS or Virus Attack. It seems to be good, we have Fortigate 400 box and we only keep upgrading the Os, the Virus, Attack definitions updates are automated.
As of now I have not worked any Software Based firewall, I thik software based firewall requires PC and the performance of the Internet despends purely on the pc/server which acts as gateway.
Dear mylot community users please give some referral information about Software Firewalls.
