Suggestion: Blocking & Reporting

There have been a plethora of posts from Spammers that have just joined to post multiple, often identical, posts about some products or services. While it is against the rules and should be reported, it is disheartening to check Most Recent posts and see a whole page flooded with spam. It takes a whole lotta time to report every post (too much time frankly), so I have resorted to using the Block feature for each user. Although it could be subject to abuse, I think there should be a 'Report' button assigned to each member to, at least, alert admin to possible abuse of the TOS by said member. Or, again as suggested in another thread, allow users to post links only after a set number of posts, similar to the old myLot rules. If I were a new user just joining myLot and saw all the spam, I would turn heels and run, thinking that this is just a bulletin board for affiliates.

Probably what I would do (cus I"m lazy) is when I report the post (assuming there is a text box? I haven't tested that yet) I'd mention that the person has posted a lot of spammy discussions, rather than trying to report each one. Or I'd use the contact button and report the user that way.

No, there isn't a text box to explain just what it is you are reporting. I did hear a rumour that one of the shiny new tools @goaskalice had been promised was Mindreading (I think that Time Travel was also considered but had to be dropped because of the tightness of the schedule). Anyway, if you have a genuine query about the validity of any post, I'm sure he won't mind if you drop him a PM (but only in the afternoon, of course).

Some kind of 'filtering' is certainly needed. Unfortunately, stopping people from posting links wouldn't work with the current lot (which I think is a troll, rather than an 'honest' spammer) because the posts don't contain links. Also 'Blocking' these particular users is of little use (except, perhaps, temporarily) because they are creating new accounts as fast as they are being deleted. I have asked whether @goaskalice can block IP addresses but he says that, at the moment, it isn't working properly and he has to email them for it to be done manually on the server. The 'Report' button on each post actually should alert Admin to the user's activity in general (as well as a specific post), if the wording of it is to be believed.

I'm getting my tools back little by little. I can at least ban and eliminate all of a members content again and that is a big plus.

I think it is a good suggestion though I am not sure Mylot accepts suggestions? They may be just monitoring the site now and then and then might decide what they want to do from any observations they make. We know there has been a change in that affilates are not only allowed here but they are encouraged! At least that is what the last communication was from the admin. The new rules say it is allowed but should be based on a post that has information in it. I think the new rules states this slightly differently than I just did but is that not what it means? If they do allow posting of affiliates it might be difficult to determine who is spamming and who is just posting with a link in their post which is allowed? What is your take on this?
