I suppose it all depends on how strong your will power is. Also the severity of the repercussions that would come from giving into the temptation can have a huge effect on whether a person will give in. If it is food we are talking about, well, every once in a while you have to let your self splurge some i think. If you have an urge to eat a piece of chocolate cake, even though you are on a diet, is it not better to eat a small piece, and satisfy that urge, knowing that if you don't some day you ill come home from work and eat a whole cake to yourself?

That is true @fruitcakeliz . One should absolutely know how to discipline oneself in order to avoid himself into any kind of temptation. Any before actually making a decision, one should know what would be the after effect of his actions.

We use our willpower to resist temptations. We think of the consequences of our actions and how these actions will affect us in the long run.
