Have you ever given or recieved one of those things that sort of sounds like a compliment but actually gives an insult? Here is an example: "You don't sweat much for a fat person." LOL

Where I grew up, that is refered to as a "left-handed compliment" (no offense intended to any lefties)

You know... now that you mention it, I think I've heard that expression, too. Here's another one: a couple years ago my husband and I attended the wedding and reception of a daughter of good friends of ours. I wore a beautifle gown from Alex Evenings...one which I receive many compliments on every time I wear it. The compliments make me feel beautiful. I was outside cooling off from dancing and also having a smoke with an elderly, but hip, woman. She was wearing a beautiful gown as well and I told her so. We enjoyed conversation for a while then she said, "It's just so woderful that large women can find nice clothing nowadays." I was floored! How do you respond to that? LOL I guess I could have said something like, "Yea, you look pretty good for a dried up hag," but instead I took the high road.
