My elder daughter is now attending her first year at the same high school I went to "100 years ago" (quote from my dad). It's astonishing how things have changed there.
I remembered the stairs, but had forgotten there were so many of them. They weren't nearly as easy to climb as I remembered. Dad sure had a rough time with it.
They've also put in elevators, but I'm betting they are for staff use only. They also added some new buildings and numbered all of the buildings too.
There are also two cafeterias, now. My daughter says that the freshmen aren't allowed into the other cafeteria and that students did not eat outside. I guess they stopped it due to safety issues. Back when I went there we had the option of asking for a covered lunch to share out doors with our friends.
We were also able to hangout wherever we wanted on the campus and enjoy conversations, listening to music, dancing etc. until the bells rang to go to class. Not true any more. Kind of sad.
At least she didn't get lost on her first day. I was very worried about that. She was a little disappointed because her crush was no where to be seen, but she did make a new best buddy.

I know what you mean the old buildings have new people in them. Yeah, too bad we can’t share our lunch ... so James Dean I’m txting you this.
I am also thinking the treadmaster stairs should be used by young and old I suppose but at a different speed setting. lol

I felt the same when my oldest daughter went to college! Off the subject but I have to ask, do you play the violin? Today's the first day I'm on here so I have NO CLUE what I'm doing! Kinda like tumbling they the rabbit hole... But I wanted to ask because of your picture.
Thanks!

@Stefanie156 You must play really well then. I wish I could have started sooner, but haven't had my violin too long. I'm trying to teach myself and learn from books and videos.

There weren't many stairs at my high school, and there aren't many at my daughter's. One two story building, that's it...
What we do with the kids so they won't get lost on their first day is walk from class to class the day before school starts so that they know where things are. Works pretty well.

the elementary and high schools i went to had fields in the middle so we could sit under trees or play. i remember playing before going home. i don't remember carrying a lot of stuff and the high school was only 2 storeys high. in college, it was up to 3 storeys but you carried even less. some of us bought food, some bought stuff at the canteen, some crossed the street and came back.
when i started working, i started to see schools inside buildings due to lack of space especially in urban areas like ours, and it's sad. i guess it's also the reason why kids here are now so used to hanging out at fastfood restaurants, convenience stores, and malls.
i'm glad she found a new friend because it really helps.
