Our 4 new members of the family is the new arrival of our GSD-Siberian Husky mix's litter. We weren't sure in the beginning if our, Kelly, was pregnant because when we went to a vet at a university nearby, he just disregarded us and didn't even try to check my dog. What he said was that it'll be expensive to have our dog checked if she was pregnant. I told him that we do our research through the internet, however, since that is not enough, we wanted to get a professional's opinion, advice and also to have her thoroughly checked. Unfortunately for us, we were charged a consultation for no check-up and very unhelpful advise and to top it off, we didn't get any receipt. It's a clinic run by one of the their professor/vets and he couldn't even get near our dog, I don't know if he was scared when my, Kelly, was behaving and didn't even show any aggressiveness. Before leaving, I told him, 'Doc, what happens if puppies come out?'. He shrugged off my question and answered 'Then she's pregnant.' My sister and I came home very disappointed and felt ripped off. About 2 weeks after, 4 healthy puppies came out and this Thursday will be their second week! I am so happy for my dog to be such a responsible mother because she never gave us a hard time. She was misjudged by the doctor because her tummy wasn't very big and it wasn't really evident that her tummy was bulging, even the 2 assistants/students who tried to check our dog with the unhelpful doctor had to say that she's too thin, she's not showing any sign of pregnancy, she doesn't look pregnant at all. We had to go home from that visit to the vet feeling lost but mother nature and the wonderful and courageous delivery of my dog Kelly proved that I shouldn't always believe everything especially when the person, no matter how professional their titles are but not in actual application, is unreliable and not confident with the way they treat their patient. I'm glad that Kelly gave us healthy puppies even if there were 2 still born. It was sad but the life of the other 4 puppies prove that trusting mother nature at the same time maybe better judgement than humans. I've been debating if I should write a complaint letter to the head of the university's department about how this professor/'so-called' vet conducted his job with us. My sister says that we can leave it up to experience, but I believe that he should also get a word from me because maybe I'm not the only person that he treats that way. Other than that, he asked for a consultation fee without issuing any receipt. There's no trace of the transaction. Should I or should I not?

I would definitely send in a letter of complaint. It was wrong that the doctor would make judgments without so much as a checkup or even getting near the animal. This certainly tests the doctors profession and should be reported.

I would certainly write up a letter of complaint and send it in. The way he just wrote you off, didn't perform the exam you asked, and charged you money for doing nothing is unacceptable. If you or your sister went to the doctor suspecting you were pregnant, and the doctor didn't even do any tests, just charged you and sent you on your way, you would certainly complain, right? Why should a vet be any different. Am glad the mother and pups are doing ok though!
