the sentence is in OED(Oxford E-C DICT),quite tricky to me after thinking twice... "they must bear much of the blame",indicating bear much blame or the majority of it? much of sth., kin to "most of sth" or not? help!

To say "much of " would mean they are to take a lot of the blame. Where as "most of" would mean they are to take the majority.

still, May it have a little meaning of "doing shopping amid many shops"?
