I wonder what other people do to get to a perfect slumber?

You can try a Chinese traditional method, which I call foot bath: to fill a tub with WARM water (above 50 centigrade) before you go to bed, and immerse your foot into the water for about 20 minutes (little sweating is the best). According to traditional Chinese medicine, there are many acupuncture points all over our foot, and the warm water can stimulate those points to speed up blood circulation, help good sleeping and promote health. I do take the foot bath every night now. My mom gets chronic insomnia, and she can fall asleep since her foot bath started this year.

@cupkitties Have you made a try? In addition, pressing an important acupoint at the sole of foot is helpful(with certain finger, yes, it is the so called acupressure). The acupoint is named Yongquan point (see the red points, the accurate position is crucial) according to Huangdi Neijing (Yellow Emperor's Canon of Medicine, about 2000 years ago). I'm the one with flat feet, so I always feel tired after long time standing or walking. The best common way for me is to take a foot bath (usually added with essential oil) and press the Yongquan point. The pressing really relaxes me, bringing a kind of indescribable comfort, and alleviating the fatigue. I have checked out that this acupoint mainly services treatment for nervosism, fatigue and lassitude, insomnia, and gynaecopathy etc. Hope it is helpful.

@cupkitties Thanks for this bit of knowledge. I sure gotta try this one. When I was a kid, my sister and I whom I shared bed most of the time plays 'footsies and tootsies' a lot before we sleep. It is an activity we practiced everytime during bedtime and as we had our nightcap talks. Where others prefer pillow fight, we make our feet fight instead or sort of. We intertwined and rub each others feet until both of us fall asleep. That habit I did when I got married and my husband becomes my 'footsies and tootsies' playmate and other things started since hahaha... The thing is that I've felt comfort if someone rub my feet. Eventually, I developed the habit of pillows on my feet so I can rub my feet on it. Well, feet comfort maybe the case why babies sleep well if we snug soft pillows in their feet so as not to startle them from unwanted noise. My mom said she used to do that when I was a baby.

@CaptAlbertWhisker I tried. I even tried warm milk and all. Although music soothes me. I wanted a sleep that would make me feel as if I am being cradled and pushed me to one deep sleep and wakes up fully charged and refreshed. I wonder if there really such a thing.
