My English is not good, but I still find so many mistakes in some passages here. Why are there so much spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes here? I once thought that most of users here are foreign people, but I now realize that I am wrong, a big wrong.

No matter how poorly our English is,we still should be encouraged since we spoke it loudly. It is a process of improvement.Everyone of us must be suffer,so be generous about our poor English.

One of the rules of MyLot is that people should not criticise other people's English. Of course, if someone specifically asks for help, that is different. I and a number of other people are always glad to try and help with questions on grammar, vocabulary and so on.

Most of the members here have English as a second language. Even those whose profiles say that they live in English-speaking countries may not have English as a first language and, of those that do, there are many who don't have good grammar or spelling and many who write 'colloquially', which may not be exactly 'correct'. The Community Guidelines here say that we should not criticise people for bad English and that is the way it should be: no matter what your level of English is, provided that you can make yourself understood and observe the rules, you should be welcome here. There are a number of people who use MyLot as a place to ask about English usage, vocabulary and grammar. Those of us who like to think we are proficient in English enjoy helping them but we never point out incorrect English unless we are asked to do so.

I have frequently found that people whose second language is English may be far better writers than people who grew up speaking the language (but never learned correct grammar or spelling).

@allknowing Is it my interpretation of your comment....or is it a little bit harsh, by using the word "most"????

@owlwings Most of those who are here that come from English speaking countries, belong to the category that have had no formal education.

I think people take short cuts even when speaking. When writing something sometimes haste will make mistakes. Also, trying to formulate answers and ideas can cause our grammar to falter. What you saying is true, a person can simply not try.

No man's knowledge can go beyond experience. Experience is the best tescher but its fees is time. Years teach more than months. We should not be frightened of anything because nobody is born wise in the world.

@sunilmishra7756 I agree with you.Having a mistake is not a problem if we can understand each other sometimes

Hey. Bluedoll...long time, no conversation....Must admit that I have been negligent from myLot since the new inception....BUT I miss my old friends from here, SO MUCH! Shortcuts...by English speakers, you bet...How about texting??? I admire persons that make an effort to communicate in a language that is foreign to them! I did NOT know that you are Canadian...East or West Coast? I am on the WET (West coast)!

A lot is your upbringing. I know there are words that I try to say the right way but end up saying it the way my parents taught me. Some never get the hang of proper grammar, some are to lazy to correct spelling even if the internet will correct it for you. My problem as far as mistakes go is that I hate to proof read. Always have.
