A fashion show of biblical proportions

It was a fashion show of biblical proportions. One by one, 27 women of the Bible strutted historical gowns, veils, crowns, jewelry and accessories Saturday afternoon at the “2,000 Years of Biblical Fashion” show at the Salvation Army in Logansport, an event that brought out more than 80 attendees. Beginning in the early books of the Old Testament with Sarah and concluding with Phoebe in the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans, Nancy Hamilton and Pam Hines narrated the significant points of 27 biblical female figures’ lives and described their attire as the models strolled across the stage. Kay Ulfers modeled as Jezebel, whom the narrators sinisterly described as “Israel’s most evil queen.” Ulfers came onstage wearing a green and blue crown with a flowing dress decked in the same colors. A black girdle was wrapped around her waist, the color of which the narrators said represented the darkness she was prophesized to bring to Israel. While the Bible states Jezebel brought darkness to her constituents thousands of years ago, it was certainly the opposite for the woman who portrayed her Saturday at the Salvation Army. Ulfers drew chuckles from the audience as she got into character by scowling and arrogantly fanning herself onstage. The show was created by the late Florence Purvis of Howell, Mich., and purchased by The Salvation Army some years ago, said Major Rose Eagle of the Salvation Army. Kathy Logan Elaine Sutton said they planned on attending the show ever since hearing an announcement about it earlier in the week. “I’ve never been to anything like this before,” Logan said. “It was great, very interesting.” Sutton applauded the way the event was able to be as informative as it was eye-appealing. “There were several different times when I said, ‘Oh, I didn’t know that about her,’” Sutton said of the elements in the spoken narrative that accompanied the models onstage. Teresa Small, who wore a black and gold leaf-patterned gown as King David’s wife, Bathsheba, said she was glad participated in the event. “It was a lot of fun seeing how they dressed thousands of years ago,” she said. “It’s not like today.” Tarah Maus modeled as Tabitha, referred to in the New Testament’s Acts of the Apostles. “I was surprised how flashy some of them were,” she said of the wardrobe, adding that she always imagined modest attire when picturing women of the Bible. Small agreed with Maus and went on to say it was fun watching the ladies react to some of these flashier getups. “The show was very good, said Kathy Loffing, who attended the show with her friend, Raenae Overmyer. “It was a very uplifting and informative program. It was refreshing to learn about the women of the Bible, some of them you rarely hear about.”Kissyaustralia green cocktail dresses | Kissyaustralia purple cocktail dresses
