Is learning how to love yourself, a greatest love of all?

Just a thought. Why do they say to love is to love yourself first. But how come everyone when they fall to someone, we intend to forget our self and isn't when your in love you intend to give it all with out the intention of giving it all, that's why they said love is blind. Isn't greatest love is unconditional love. Do we choose who we love, Isn't its our heart and not our self who choose who we love. Isn't it when there's someone almost perfect and we wanted to love that someone the way they love us but it is hard to control your heart and tell who to love. Isn't by loving the people around you is loving yourself? What is the greatest love...loving your self or loving the people around you and the people that your heart tells you to love?
