Gay Love Story Ends on a High Note

The popular television series, "My Husband's Lover" which gathered millions of Filipino followers, ends today, October 18 after four months. The fans find it hard to say goodbye to their favorite TV series, the first of its kind in our conservative country because it's about two gay men whose love for each other withstood the harsh society in which we live. The show elicited reactions both negative (particularly from the Catholic church) and positive among Filipinos straight or gay. For those who are not familiar with the show, It's a love triangle between a wife , Lally; her husband, Vincent who happened to be gay, and his high school sweetheart, Eric.Vincent is the only son of a high-ranking military official. To hide his sexuality from his homophobic father, Vincent decided to marry Lally and they were blessed with two kids . After ten years, Eric reappeared as their architect thus, Vincent's suppressed feelings resurfaced. One of the highlights of the story was when Lally caught them in the act of making out. How Lally reacted after finding out the truth about her husband was so heartfelt that every wife in the country surely can relate with it.She was calm and kept everything to herself all the while crying silently just to keep her family from falling apart. It's about love being selfless. Lally allowed Vincent to see Eric knowing she can't compete with the kind of attachment they have for each other.Eric, on the other hand saw how the situation might affect the children so he decided to leave Vincent and flew to the States. Everybody is looking forward to a happy ending. Lally went back to school to earn a college degree with Vincent supporting her. They now shared a different kind of love even far beyond what they felt before for each other. She may have lost a husband but she gained a friend. She also became friends with Eric as they secretly exchange e-mails from time to time. After tonight, I'm surely going to miss all the characters who made me stay up late for nights.They made an impact to the general public. Much discrimination has been laid upon the third sex in our society and through this series I hope people will understand them better. They are also capable of true love. To the cast and the whole production staff of "My Husband's Lover", congratulations!
