Although a Digital Camera is quick and easy, I still prefer my SLR. What do you reckon?
I don't have the money to get a Digital SLR, but has anyone got one and what are they like?

I love my digital SLR. You should consider buying a refurbished one as they cost less. Mine was just around $500 refurbished.
I just think of all the money it saves me on buying and developing film. I've already shot around 10,000 photos with it. Imagine if all that was on film!

Yes, that is a very close up shot of my eye! I have so much fun with my camera. I've found that because I can see things closer with it, I am able to use it as a diagnostic tool with my pets as well. I'll immediately notice crust on eyes or noses with a poster sized photo. I've even caught small eye problems before they became larger.
I know what you mean about the upfront cost. When digital cameras were still very new, I wanted one so badly, but wasn't sure about it. I didn't want to spend $1,000 even though I knew I probably spent that much on film (and I'm talking about $1,000 for just a 2 megapixel camera, but a good brand). I didn't even have $1,000 at that time. So finally I ended up entering a photo contest, and winning a Nikon CoolPix 800 (5th place I think it was... but the other 4 places were things like scanners and other stuff I already had). I loved that camera and shot all sorts of photos with it (now I don't know how I lived with it, it seems so slow now!). I finally stopped using it after taking over 10,000 photos. Now I just keep it around to take with me to animal shelters so that I do not have to bring in my expensive camera.

I love the digital camera's...
The plus side of Digital is not only the savings in Film, but that you can get your photo's into your computer much faster.
This helps speed any projects you need to get done. Also aids in touch ups.
The memory cards are smaller and easier to carry around...
DSLR cameras are the future...
They allow you to do alot more, Diff lens's, filters, etc.
Like you, I can not afford one yet, but the price is coming down, I can find some good ones in the $400 range now...
till I have the money the good old film SLR camera, and film processing is what I have to do...

I've found that smaller memory cards are also more easily lost. I still like that my SLR has compact flash instead of secure digital.
It definitely speeds up projects.
The other cool thing is, I used to work as a pet photographer, and it was really nice being able to show my customers their photos right after I took them rather than having to send out proofs.

as a beginner it is better to dabble with a digital camera which offers manual features like CANON POWERSHOT A700 so that u can graduate to a digital SLR later on. Still furthur its better to go for an analog SLR. that i think returns the best results. If u need even better work, Medium Format cameras will offer u that....do reply to wat u feel on this..

Unfortunately, I'm restricted now to how I can handle my CHINON CE4, as I have MS and do not have the 'feeling' in my fingers anymore to manipulate the controls propely.
Also, I cannot afford to 'upgrade' to a digital SLR at the mo! John Howard (our Prime Minister) won't give me a pay rise!!!
