Nobody should need to drink more than 2 litres of liquid a day. If you drink more than that, you are in serious danger of over diluting the electrolytes which is far more dangerous to health than drinking too little. Our bodies are able to cope with slight under-hydration for short periods and over-hydration can cause far more damage in the long run. Your best guide is to drink when you feel thirsty. If your urine is pale or golden yellow and you are passing between a litre and a half and two litres a day, then you are drinking an adequate amount.

I have a friend who says you can NEVER drink too much water, but he's probably supposing you're getting all the electrolytes (that @owlwings mentions) from all the food you eat all day. But Owlwings is probably right.

8 glasses is enough. When you take excess, you sweat alot especially if you live in a tropical country. Moreover, if you're taking excess cold water, I believe it will weaken yur bones.

Most of these calculations assume that a cup is somewhere between 150 and 250 millilitres.
