What dog Breeds do you think this puppy has in him?

I recently rescued a puppy that I named Lester. He came from a high kill shelter in Virginia. I rescued him through a lady that pulled him out. She told me hes a Shepherd Collie mix, however I don't think he has Collie in him. I was guessing may a German Shepherd, Golden Retriever mix? Maybe Afghan hound? Doberman? Rottie? Let me help you decide what you think by describing his personality. Hes a very social dog, very submissive, he climbs into your lap. He seems protective, and will bark at strangers. He is almost always on the floor when he greets you. I tried throwing tennis balls for him, sometimes he goes to get them, and sometimes he doesn't. Hes really not very energetic however, and doesn't seem to playful. He spends a lot of his time laying down. He is somewhat scared, probably due to his shelter experience. Hes good with my other dog. But its just hard for us because he came from a shelter. He is scared and has odd behavior. He is so submissive, and lays on the ground to much. Its a shame he has such issues as it tends to hide who he really is.
