I've quit smoking!

I've been a smoker for thirty years. I started as a teenager and acquired the vice through adulthood. like most of us I did drink and did stuffs I'm not so proud of . I quit all of these juvenile stuffs except smoking. For me it relieves stress, hunger, insomnia, among others. I used to consume almost two packs of cigarettes a day. But lately , I took notice of illnesses that plague most people my age. Hypertension, cancer, lung problems, etcetera. I became conscious of my health and became more keen to those tiny discomforts I began to feel. So I decided to try to stop smoking. My friends told me it's not an easy task and really, it wasn't. It's like letting go of a best friend. The cravings were so great i would try for a week at most and get back to the old habit again. But something happened to me a few months ago. I got so ill I had no choice but to cease smoking. I thought I couldn't do it but it was a matter of choosing to live free from toxins or to smoke my way to death. Of course, I chose to live. Now, I after five months, I can happily say I feel better.and healthier. I look forward to a longer life, (God willing) and I do not intend to go back to my cigarettes ever again!

My dad is trying to quit, but he still smokes a pack a day. Do you know of anything I could do to help him?

if one is going to give up a bad habit, he has to find something else to replace it. He has to focus his mind to more positive things. He may try computer games, fishing, etc.( what else does he enjoy doing beside smoking?) suggest it to your dad.
