I am planning to undergo hair transplant surgery as I am experiencing extensive hair loss which led to baldness. Are there any potential risks associated with the hair restoration procedure?

There are no proven potential risks associated with hair transplant surgery. Surgery is conducted by giving local Anastasia so the effects of pain are minimal. Healthy donor strips or units are taken from scalp and transplanted on to bald areas of the scalp. In some cases feelings of itching and discomfort is being observed but they tend to disappear in few weeks. Check out the link for more details.
