Building My TRex 450 Clone RC Helicopter
One hobby I enjoy very much is building and flying rc helicopters. The photo in this paragraph is my current project that I am working on. It is a 450 TRex clone made by Hausler. It is what's called a collective pitch helicopter, which means the rotor speed basically remains constant and the lift is varied by changing the pitch which is constantly during the flight. The 450 sized helicopters measurements are listed below:
Length - approximately 634mm
Height - approximately 224mm
Main Rotor Diameter - approximately 715mm
This type of helicopter is more for an advanced flyer as it is more difficult to fly. I will discuss two other types of helicopters in the following paragraphs. I started this project with a standard 450 Hausler rc heli and added upgraded aluminum parts, making it more durable and easier to fly. The main rotor head was mostly made of plastic, so I purchased an aluminum main rotor head, which was intricate to build with all the small screws. You can also purchase the main rotor head already assembled at a higher price. So far, so good on the build as I am just waiting on a few more parts.
Whether you're just starting out or a seasoned flyer, the rc helicopter hobby is a great hobby to be involved in. I have started around 14 years ago and I truly say "I Love This Hobby". I guess it's because that flying an rc helicopter is so realistic and the hobby is so much far advanced from when I was a kid. This is going to show my age and I know some of you will remember this and the younger generation will just give me a crazy look. Do you know what they sold in hobby shops when I was a kid as a high tech gas powered car? A company named Cox sold gas powered cars with .049 engines and you tied the car to a string and attached the string to a nail in the ground, then watched the car spin around and around. So now compared to the technology then, you can see why I'm so amazed about the hobby world today.
