Start-up companies might think that managing a small business is easy. As a business owner, this might be true considering that you only have a few people handling your daily operations, and your business operates in a small area. You probably think that you can handle most, if not all of the tasks yourself.
It is fairly understandable that you would want to keep your staff small so that it’s easier for you to manage them. However when you want your business to grow and keep it afloat, there may come a time that you would need to delegate some work to others.
One option is for you to outsource the work. Outsourcing can be beneficial for your growing business as it keeps your operational expenses low. In fact, a lot of big companies such as Accenture and JPMorgan Chase have taken advantage of outsourcing and are reaping the benefits.
How do you know if you need to outsource your work? Here are several signs that indicate it’s time for you to outsource:
Lack of time and resource – when you are already overloaded with work and just don’t have the extra time to handle additional projects; when your resources are also wearing thin and your team is incapable of handling more tasks.
Financial incapability – when your business doesn’t have enough capital to invest on additional resources and you want to keep your overheads at a minimum.
Lack of expertise – when you or your staff don’t have the right skills or expertise on handling specific tasks such as bookkeeping, Web development, or technical support.
Losing focus – when you lose sight of your business goals due to decisions and work that can be delegated to someone else.
Short-term need – when there are projects that don’t require full-time work; these may be seasonal projects that only last for less than a year.
Missed opportunities – when you have to pass on promising projects because you just don’t have the time or the proper resources to work on them, or when you missed attending business conferences or networking events because you had to crunch time at the office.
When any or all of these factors come into play with regards to your business, then maybe it’s time for you to think about outsourcing some of your work. By delegating certain tasks to others, you get to focus more on growing your business. In addition, you also maximize not just your time but your team’s as well. Freeing up some of your time gives you the opportunity to do more, whether at work or play.
There are a lot of offshore service providers out there that you can choose when you plan to outsource. Just remember to do a thorough research on them and think about the pros and cons of doing so before hiring a virtual staff.
