I am originally from Atlantic City, New Jersey, but fate has brought me here to Germany. Ok, that's only part of the story. I was in the military ( the only way I could afford to be here at the time). After being here for almost 10-years There is such a huge culture difference between the American and German way of life. It really didn't hit me until I got out of the military and had to interact with the local nationals. Most of my experiences with Germans people were generally positive, but at times, I get the occasional "O, look at the crazy American" stare, but that is legitimate because most Americans that are either living or station overseas have little or no respect for the German culture. This is mainly towards the younger generation.
Has anyone else lived overseas? If so, how was you experience and what advice can we share with someone that is about to live abroad?

I have never lived over seas, but I've learned enough through others who have to study the culture and learn the language. I've seen some very embarrassing behavior from young Americans visiting over seas because they go over there not knowing anything.

@jimMan The first place I'd go is Ireland to meet my family there. I'd like to go to Japan, Philippines, Canada, all over the world.

I plan to learn German language. I am curious about that country. I read an article on a website that German was the second most used language in internet last year.
