Here is an interesting take on the matter: I recently read an email from a messianic rabbi who asserted that the pressure and uncertainty currently being experienced by Russian Jews in the Crimean region has been sufficient to compel many to seek refuge in Israel. Without such unrest, these Jews would likely not be so inclined to return to their promised homeland. Some believe that such pressures can be expected to rise in places all over the world where Jewish populations are found. It seems reasonable that God could use catalysts like this to fulfill prophesy which indicates that He will, in the last days, gather His own from the corners of the earth to bring them back to Israel.
